When suddenly there are a lot of new videos gushing and talking about Avatar: The Last Airbender and praising the different things that it does well:

When literally every single one of them feels the need to take a jab at the Legend of Korra without even explaining why in any detail whatsoever:

As much as a critisize the legend of korra (esp the first two seasons) i must say, Beginnings part 1 & 2 are the absolute best two episodes released in the entire Avatar series. The animation, the lore, the MUSIC. Everytime i watch these two episodes i get emotional. It's just so magical. "Haven't you heard the legends? I'm not a regular human anymore!" Fuck it UP steven yeun!!

God i still hate how much they underpowered lightning in tlok. Mako shot a lightningbolt straight at Amon's chest. That should have killed him instantly. Aang got a bolt shot at him from way further away into his back and he died. Mako was literally inches away from Amon. And don't come at me with bullshit like "oh Mako made it so his lightning wouldn't kill him" because why on earth would Mako not aim to kill here?

Honestly the way this show maimed both lightning and metalbending is really annoying. I get it, these skills get perfected over time and more and more people start to train to learn them bla bla bla. I'm still allowed to be pissy about it lol

Watsonian nonsense suggestion 1 (I'm sorry): Hitting someone with lightning is comparable to.... punching someone in the head IRL. Sometimes they get lucky and walk it off, and sometimes it becomes a case of manslaughter.

Watsonian nonsense suggestion 2: Amon had rubber soles.

Watsonian nonsense suggestion 3: The bolt that hit Aang damaged his heart. The bolt that hit Amon didn't damage his heart, because Noatak didn't have one.

Watsonian nonsense suggestion 4: Noatak was so delusional that he convinced himself he was immune to lightning.

I feel the need to be That Guy and remind everyone that I'm 80% sure Asami once shocked the Lt. with his own weapons, so I'm assuming the EQs had a policy of 'All uniforms must use rubber and the in-universe equivalent of Nomex for safety purposes, except the Lt.'s because he's the sort of guy who'd lick the contacts on a car battery in exchange for 100 yuans and a pack of cigarettes, and we're not wasting money on a guy who has the self-preservation skills of a backyard wrester.'

Gosh i have to say s3 truly is the best of tlok. The timing of it is so good too: you're already used to these characters and you care about them, so Bumi suddenly airbending within the first minute of the episode immediately draws you in. New airbenders is painted like such a positive change in the entire episode, only for the last minute to then show you how it can have horrible side effects. A prisoner we haven't seen, but is clearly very dangerous because they are locked up somewhere no one can reach and guarded 24/7, gains airbending and seemingly already knows how to control it. We have no idea who this stranger is but they don't like the white lotus OR the avatar. You're invested so fast. It's such a stellar opening for the season, and i truly have to give the creators their flowers for this one.

My younger cousin (16) finished s4 of tlok. Here is her final opinion of the characters

Korra: "3 B's: badass, beautiful, bisexual."

Asami: "SHE GOT HER HAPPY ENDING LETSGOOO"

Mako: "y'know what he really came around. I hope he makes that prince his wife"

Bolin: "ngl. I hated him more and more each season. I'm sorry Bolin nation."

Tenzin: "i have mad respect for him since season 3. Korra grew up a lot but i think somehow he did too"

Kya & Bumi: "what did they do all season?" Me: "ngl i forgot" Her: "unimportant. they're both gay"

Kuvira: "finally another female villain. a win for feminism." Me: "you said that last season about p'li too" Her: "i meant every word"

Bataar jr: "and an absolutely pathetic man behind the female villain. Truly a setback for the patriarchy, we love to see it"

Lin Beifong: "turns out she didn't have just daddy issues but mommy issues too. Double whammy."

Suyin Beifong: "that's mother"

Toph Beifong: "FUCK IT UP GRANNY"

Jinora: "still the best character of this whole series and i stand by that"

Kai: "WHERE WAS THIS ASSHOLE???"

Ikki & meelo: "my mom told me if i have nothing nice to say, say nothing at all." Me: "what abt the other characters you openly hate?" Her: "those weren't CHILDREN"

Prince Wu: "is it weird that i kinda liked him even if he was pathetic? The ultimate kuzco."

Varrick & Zhu Li: "well this came out of nowhere but good for them"

Opal: "*whispers* is it bad that i really don't like her?"

I'm also still kind of mad at the ending of tlok season one lol. Like i know the writers wanted more time and nickelodeon only gave them one season, so i can't really fault them too much for cramming everything into that final episode. But still, you'd think that lionturtle in atla is a deus ex machina but Korra just unlocked airbending, connected to her spiritual side and mastered the avatar state all in one day, and we don't even get a proper explanation as to how.

"When we hit our lowest point we are open to the greatest change" okay but Korra didn't even do anything to open herself up to said change. She just sat there crying. She did pull an effort to meditate to learn about Yakone's history but that's it. I'm not saying she has to "earn it" but she never even cared enough to learn about the spirit world or anything like that. We don't see it until season 2. It would make more sense if she unlocked all of these abilities in s2, because that's when she truly starts exploring the spiritual aspects of bending.

I just wished we could have witnessed a true journey when it comes to Korra's spiritual side. Once again i know this is partially due to nickelodeon's stubbornness but like i'm allowed to complain ya know?

To hammer home on this point:

In s2, Korra faces her first spiritual problems. She doesn't know how to handle them because, well, she just wasn't taught. Aang wasn't taught either, but being raised an airnomad he already had a pretty expansive spiritual background and was able to find solutions to his lack of teachings.

Korra however, is still not connected to her spiritual side at all. Unalaq tells her he can teach her about the spirits, and Korra's mind instantly wanders to "fighting spirits". A spirit attacks the festival and Korra doesn't even try to negotiate, she just fires (to be fair the spirit did attack her first, but why would she not even try and ask what the issue is? Spirits aren't dumb animals). Then when going to open the spirit portal in the south pole, Korra tries to open it by bending at it. BENDING AT IT. Use your goddamn brain Korra! Why on earth would a spirit portal open if you firebend at it???? You mastered the avatar state, fucking use it in the right context for once!

I'm just saying, it's bullshit that Korra supposedly "connected" with her spiritual side. She didn't connect jack shit yet. Not until later this season.

Anonymous asked:

wait i never thought abt the korra thing. bc surely their bending isn't actually gone? just blocked off- like a more permanent and less paralysing version of chi blocking. the bending is still there

Yeah, exactly what i'm thinking. Amon used some precision bloodbending, and i'm sure most of y'all noticed but when he takes away people's bending he touches their forehead with his thumb, probably somehow blocking off the part of the brain that's responsible for bending, probably something to do with their Chi but tbh i don't know how that really works and the creators didn't rlly give us an anatomy lesson.

Energybending, as explained in the show, is different. It can grant the power of bending even to those who have never had the ability to do it before, so it possibly either unlocks something within the body (chi?) that you can't reach otherwise. (see: lion turtles in Wan's time, handed out bending to the humans that left their safety, even if said humans never bended before in their life). Amon can't grant anyone bending, because born non benders don't have that part in their brains.

Now after the harmonic convergence, some non benders suddenly were able to airbend. I'm assuming that energybending has something to do with it, seeing as lion turtles are spiritual creatures (tbh we don't rlly know what they are. They could actually be spirits from what we know, spirits can take physical forms and roam the human world, like Tui and La).

So how is it that when Amon locked off a part of the brain responsible for bending with bloodbending, that Korra is able to just bring it back? My guess would be that Korra didn't suddenly start bloodbending and didn't unlock that part in the bender's brain, she actually granted the ability of bending again to the benders. And the benders are able to control it immediately because, well, they're used to it. Way different from the people that suddenly became airbenders. So maybe if Korra was feeling a bit mischievous, she could have just granted people a completely different element, which would have been hilarious. If she wanted to get back at that shitboy Tahno, she could have just given him firebending and told him to figure it out.

What do you guys think?

So wait, if Amon was able to block people's bending ability permanently by using a high level technique in bloodbending, how was Korra able to grant it back to people? I know Aang had the ability to energybend, and that's probably what he passed down onto Korra in that final episode. But if the bending was blocked by bloodbending in the first place, how is energybending gonna counteract that and unlock it? Is energybending and bloodbending closely related?

My younger cousin (16) watched tlok season 3 for the first time. Here's her opinion of the characters

Korra: "is it bad that she got more attractive to me when she was suffering?" Me: "idk, maybe?" Her: "... i'll talk abt it in therapy don't worry"

Asami: "i'm so confused is there something between her and Korra???" Me: "you know i'm not gonna tell you" Her: "yeah i hate it when you do that."

Mako: "alright he got more tolerable this season i'll give you that"

Bolin: "and he got worse. So sorry" Me: "but the lavabending?" Her: oh yeah that was cool. He still sucks tho"

Tenzin: "now THAT is Aang's son right there. That shit was bad-fucking-ass."

Bumi: "again, now THAT is Aang's son. THOSE are his children. Not the shitty adults we saw last season"

Kya: "a lesbian?" Me: "doesn't get confirmed til the comics" Her: "oh for FUCKS SAKE"

Jinora: "i love her i cherish her she's the smartest and most powerful character in this show she beats everyone else"

Kai: "he reminds me too much of my brother and i don't like that"

Ikki & meelo: "they're still annoying i'm so sorry"

Lin Beifong: "she needs therapy"

Suyin Beifong: "of all the characters i expected, i didn't think Toph would get the messiest. Like not one but TWO baby daddies? Man. Suyin is cool as hell tho but she does give awkward soccer mom vibes"

Opal: "does she have more personality other than 'sweet cute girl for bolin to bang?'"

Zaheer: "best villain this universe ever produced only for him te become absolutely pathetic in the end bc bolin pushed a sock into his mouth. They should have kept him stoic and scary. He was so cool until that exact moment and they HAD to have a dumb bolin one liner. I'm so mad about this if you couldn't tell"

P'li: "sparky sparky boom WOMAN. A win for feminism."

Ming Hua: "i still think young Katara would beat her in a fight and i'd pay good money to see it."

Ghazan: "i have a rlly good joke about him" Me: "ok shoot" Her: "he's mista Lava Lava" *burts out laughing*

Lord Zuko: "ngl i screamed when i saw him on screen maybe i do like his character"

Varrick & Zhu Li: "HOW MANY CHARACTERS ARE IN THIS SEASON JESUS" Me: "and we haven't even gone over the president yet" Her: "oh my GOD"
