Who I Need Now: when do the sensates connect?
Everyone loves when the sensates call on each other when their skills are needed: Capheus to drive or jump a car, Will to disarm gunmen, and so on. But often the sensates connect to each other because they need something less quantifiable: an aspect of the sensate’s personality that they lack in that moment. Let’s explore the less tangible reasons why the sensates connect.
(from @netflixsense8gifs)
The sensates connect to Sun when they’re nervous, and they need willpower and determination. Capheus does this all the time. Riley does it when she’s trying to make a decision in the wake of the horrible drug-related violence she experienced. Kala does it when she’s nervous about having sex with Rajan. Nomi is unsure if relying on Will is the best strategy, and ends up in Sun’s cell for her quiet determination. Wolfgang does it twice in the Christmas special: once when he’s nervous about Felix’s safety, again when he needs her calm will in the middle of the battle against the gangsters.
The cluster connect to Capheus when they’re sad and down, and they need some of his optimism. Kala goes to him after she breaks down crying at the movie theater with her parents. Riley goes to him when she’s crying over her husband and daughter’s grave. And of course Sun goes to him from prison to lift her spirits.
The sensates connect to Lito to help them express emotions that they keep suppressed. Sun connects to Lito in a rather notorious sequence where she’s crying and refuses to admit it, while Lito screams her pain for everyone on the Mexico City streets to hear. When Nomi recounts her story of childhood bullying, in a very calm and detached way, Lito screams her pain: “Stop it, you monsters!” And in the Christmas special Kala connects to him to express her indignation at her sexuality becoming a public spectacle.
These are the general trends. But there are also sensates with particular connections that don’t apply to anyone else.
Wolfgang and Kala, quite obviously, connect to each other when they are reminded of matters romantic or sexual: Wolfgang always seems to find his way to Kala during his one-night stands, and Kala to Wolfgang when she’s having a romantic moment with Rajan. But they’re also drawn to each other at other emotional moments: when Wolfgang is drinking alone in the snow, when Kala is swimming free in the blue Mediterranean.
And of course, as Lito observes so touchingly in the Christmas special, Lito is drawn to Nomi when he’s scared. Nomi objects that she’s chicken, and she doesn’t understand why Lito goes to her, but I do. She’s experienced his worst nightmare: the abuse of her peers and total rejection by her parents. She faced down his darkest fear about coming out and not only survived, but thrived. No wonder Lito comes to her for help.
Veterans Ask Native Elders For Forgiveness At Standing Rock.
I never thought I would see this day when a white man apologizes for the tyranny and oppression of Native American population. This is so powerful. This is the nation that I want - responsible, compassionate and that learns from its mistakes.
God bless them!
IM CRYING OMG
I’m in shambles. I’m so sorry as a veteran that so much has been taken and so much life has been soiled on your land and I am so so sorry that you still have to fight.
Blessing your dashbord with Newt’s smile.

Beasts and Where to Find Them Cast → Alison Sudol and Dan Fogler:
‘Together we’ve got a bit of an Adelaide and Nathan Detroit [from Guys and Dolls] thing going. So I’m always referencing something, that’s where I come from. I do a lot of homages in my work so I’m always referencing something. That’s what it feels like with the two of us.’ Dan Fogler
