Team Konami's comments following Kohei Uchimura's official announcement (on Nov 27, 2016) to become a professional gymnast. [Source article]
Koji Yamamuro: We've known each other for 10 years so it will be lonely, but I hope he'll continue to inspire hope and dreams in many people and keep being a hero to the children.
Yusuke Tanaka: Training with him in Konami taught me so much. When I first got on the national team with him [in 2006] I called him "Ucchii”, but now I call him Kohei-san. I felt like a child again in Rio though. Homma arigatou.*
Ryohei Kato: One of the reasons I joined Konami was that I could train with Kohei-san so I feel a little sad, but I'm cheering for him in his new endeavor to promote gymnastics.
Kohei Uchimura: I wasn’t expecting such a wonderful present.** I don't have tears, but I'm really happy. I didn't cry even when I won gold at the Olympics, so I don't think I'll cry, but I'm really happy. I made such great memories training with you.
[*I think Yusuke is referring to the time he said “homma arigatou” (an informal way of saying thank you in the Kansai dialect) to Kohei when they won team gold in Rio. The proper way of saying thank you to an elder is “arigatou gozaimasu/gozaimashita”, but here he’s intentionally using the same informal expression he used in Rio. **Team Konami gave Kohei a jacket with written messages from all of them.]

During the Q&A session with children at the Konami Event:
(The first thing they ate back in Japan.) Yusuke had a dessert from a convenient store. "When I ate it, I was as happy as when I won the gold medal." Ryohei went to a local festival and ate at different food stalls. Koji had Japanese fruits. Kohei treated himself to lots of horse mackerel sushi because he won gold.
(Something funny that happened in the Olympic Village.) They played table tennis and Ryohei smashed a ball and it hit Yusuke in the face. Yusuke’s reaction was so funny that Kohei laughed until he cried. 😂
