Rolin: "Yes, we've been thinking about it for a while. And we've been progressing it. But the show is The Vampire Lestat, first and foremost. That's the thing that we're most concerned with. Yes, that [DM] will not drop. There will be story point leading towards the DM. I think the whole thing is the DM. Every interaction you've [Assad] ever had with him is already part of the DM, wouldn't you agree?"

Assad: "I totally agree. I think it's being incorporated like...I think the DM is a concentration of who Armand and Molloy are for the whole series."

Rolin: "Yeah, I think everybody's asking for this one very aggressive chapter in the third book of this thing, and we're giving them season and seasons and seasons of DM. It's coming. It's happening. Don't worry about it. All good."

this is so funny, imagine starting a show in your late 60s/early 70s, meeting the people you're gonna work with and your younger co-star in his 30s keeps telling you "yeah, we're hooking up"

also, looks like Assad likes devil's minion a lot !! i do hope they give us both modern moments with Daniel and Armand and flashbacks with young Daniel after what happened in 1973

Interesting tidbits from the latest interview with Assad Zaman

Full interview:

First of all, it's so clear that IWTV has had an enormous impact on his life. When Katie asks about his life & career pre-IWTV, he says:

"Yeah, I don't really know much about myself before this. I feel like IWTV has kind of etched into the soul and it's hard to remember what I used to be like before."

Obviously this is hyperbole, but still, it speaks volumes as to how much his (professional) life has changed since then and how much it revolves around IWTV now.

He then mentions how during S1 he was able to just watch the show as a regular viewer because he wasn't being asked to do any promo or be in the limelight for obvious reasons. It's clear he loves this show.

"I fell in love with [the show]. I fell in love with it so hard - more than I thought I would. [...] I knew it was gonna be good, but how perfectly it was gonna capture this lightning in a bottle, I don't think I was ready for. And it kinda had me from then on."

He talks about the responsibility and self-inflicted pressure he feels for making sure that he knocks his performance as Armand out of the park to ensure that S2 remains at the high level of quality S1 established. Then he praises the writing.

"We're really blessed with amazing writing. That's no joke. I'm not exaggerating. Those words are so easy to flow out your mouth, even if some of them feel quite alien to you in the way you say it. You can sort of flow with it and dance with it."

Like in other interviews, he mentions how a decision was made by the director to shoot the fight scene in S2E5 between Louis and Armand like a play. How they were encouraged to talk over each other and how they didn't do any ADR later. Interestingly, he also mentions that his accent slips just a little as he adlibs some things during the fight (and they apparently cut out a lot too - I would love to see that deleted footage).

Assad says he really relates to Armand in that moment of vulnerability in S2E5 where he says to Louis that Claudia didn't love him like Lestat did and Armand has. You can tell he really internalized and analyzed Armand's character and has strong feelings about him. He's almost cracking up with emotion when he talks about the tragedy of Armand's character.

"You really want to help [Armand] but then he does not help himself. So it just makes you like love and loathe him. And I know people like that in my life where you're just like 'I really want to love you, but you're making it so difficult and you're not seeing the patterns in your behavior.'"

On the topic of the shifting power dynamics between Armand and Louis and the use of "maître" and "Arun" to symbolize these shifts, Assad says that Armand doesn't want to be a maître, he wants Louis to be his maître. When Louis calls Armand "Arun" for the first time, Armand feels that Louis is seeing him for the child, the innocent he is, and he feels relief that Louis agrees to take on the coven leader burden from him and that he doesn't have to do it alone anymore. As for the sexual dynamics, Assad says he feels that Armand sees Louis as his protector, but that it's difficult because he wants to give up that control (and submit), but he also wants to control Louis. And those two incompatible desires are his downfall.

Finally he talks about which part of playing Armand he enjoys the most.

"I never thought by this time in my life I would be blessed with a part like this, with an exploration of life like this, with an exploration of storytelling like this. [...] I would struggle finding my favorite part of playing Armand because all of it has just been such a fantastic lesson and experience for me. One of the moments that stand out to me is the scene in the Louvre where we look at the painting. [...] I remember reading that scene and going 'oh shit'. That scene and all of episode 5 were my two 'oh shit' moments. As an actor going 'how the fuck am I gonna do that?'

We are so blessed with Assad playing Armand. He loves the show and the character so damn much.

I love how every week in post-episode interviews, jacob anderson is just chilling and pondering louis’ precarious psyche and being like ‘oh louis is so fucked up. that man is Not well, can you believe how unwell he is??’ while assad zaman kinda looks like he’s been up all night trying to absorb armand into his soul and he’s like ‘armand is a little scheming bitch, he’s always scheming and planning and also he’s lonely. but mostly scheming’ and then every once in a while a wild sam reid appears and he goes ‘btw whatever they’re telling you about lestat, they’re lying and my close personal friend lestat de lioncourt is NOT happy about it’
