T/N: “Itadakimasu” (頂きます) is an expression of gratitude for your meal one says before eating. It literally translates to “I receive”, but in actual meaning it can be understood more like “thank you for the meal / thank you for the food”. “Gochisousama deshita” (ご馳走様でした) is the expression one says after eating a meal, it translates to “it was a feast”, used to express that one has just had a wonderful meal and their gratitude. It is the customary and polite thing to say.
