There was no answer.
Patton exhaled, biting his lip as he dropped his hand, staring with only slightly blurry vision at the crown emblem on Roman’s door.
There had never been no answer before.
Out of all the others, Roman’s room had always been open to him. No matter the time of day or night. No matter the reason. Roman…Roman would always let his door swing open and Patton could come in to spend however long he needed to inside.
Now….now….he swallowed, fighting to keep his vision from blurring further. Now…it obviously wasn’t.
Maybe because of today this door would be closed to him forever.

He hugged himself, chest aching as he turned away for the stairs, keeping his head down as he moved past both Logan and Virgil’s doors.
Both firmly locked.
Both silent.
Both…unhappy with him too.
Do you think there’s a limit… on how many times someone can say sorry?
He wished there wasn’t. He wished that it would just be one more apology and things could get back to…being…better. Back to the…okay not great…but better times when his fellow Sides actually kinda wanted to be around him.
If they had ever wanted to be around him in the first place.
Had they?
Had they ever…liked him?
His breath hitched as he entered the kitchen, his fingers digging into his arms as he came to a stop in front of the stove.
Cooking had always made him feel better.
But what was the point of cooking for one?

Imagine one of the others calming Lilypadton down by hugging him. Imagine if it were Remus to everyone’s shock.

look i love a reverse-redemption arc as much as the next gay but sometimes u know… sometimes i just think it’d be nice if Remus started getting a little softer from hanging out with Patton. not quieter, or more “normal”, or less of himself, mind you, just… softer… Happier. Letting himself be finally content, knowing that he doesn’t have to keep up the constant energy and yelling just to get scraps of attention, because Patton will care for him regardless. Finally getting the chance to just *rest*, without the exhaustion of finding the next gross thing to say, the next tiring shape to twist himself into, because he’s finally being given the care that he needs to stop all the transparent begging. Patton talks to him and he doesn’t even have to start the conversation, Patton touches him on purpose, willingly, Patton shows him positive attention for the first time and somehow it’s even better than the usual screaming and cowering and fleeing.
Because it lasts, it stays, it comforts. It isn’t a fleeting reaction, it’s an affection that’s built to stay. And finally, Remus can relax, he can relax and know that he’ll still be noticed, because now he knows what it’s like to be cared for.

Imagine: Remus and Patton finding good common ground in the kitchen. Remus has a super fun time helping out by smashing meat with a meat tenderizer and Patton can’t help but giggle at him. Remus convinces Patton to try unconventional recipes. They get covered in batter and flour making weird shaped cookies. Patton shows Remus how to slow down by having him make swirls and patterns on a cake with a tube of frosting. It all helps Remus slow down and practice precision while helping Patton loosen up and get a little more spontaneous.
