Yeah, OK, this post (and many others like this one) had me look for songs with the word yellow. Of course Coldplay came up. But then I checked for yellow eyes, and, HELLO?! Mister Rayland Baxter, everyone! Buckle up!
There's a paperclip resting on my countertop
What it's like to lose a friend
And I've said all I can say
But now it's time I get to goin'
But now it's time I get to find my own way
And I'll leave you lonely
Aziraphale in heaven the next day, at his desk. Distracted, thinking about yesterday, y'know ep 6. He has to move on though, can't have his thoughts stuck like that and he knows he left Crowley behind, alone and lonely, by himself... He said all he could and yet Crowley didn't come with him.
Knowing not which way to go
Has washed me away and I've become
Just another vagabond holding my head, oh
But now it's time I get to goin'
But now it's time I get to find my own way
And I'll leave you lonely
Crowley, in his car, feels like he left Aziraphale alone as he runs away, no destination in mind, just away from it all. He's unsure, apathy takes over as he loses his trail of thoughts - should he have gone with Aziraphale? Was it the right decision? Not that he cares anymore. He just needs to leave. Away from the bookstore that reminds him of his golden sun, his angel, who washed him away. Not much is left of him, but he has to keep going, leaving Aziraphale lonely behind on his own way.
All in all it's a beautiful day
I cannot help but run away
That it's all in your head?
They try to move on, get over each other, they've just imagined things, haven't they? They run away from the overwhelming feelings, they're not real, they never were - right?
Melt a fire, burn the ice
Find the girl with yellow eyes
And go and break her heart
But it wasn't just in his head. He did break Crowleys heart. God doesn't roll dice but he did. And in the most unlikely events, he gave a chance to the wrong place and it cost him his dearest friend and could-be lover.
And I know not what I've become
A prisoner to everyone I've loved from the start, oh
Of course nothing changes. Crowley at least doesn't see any changes. "Change Heaven, for me?" No. He knew what he had become. He gave himself up, fully opening his heart and for what? To have it thrown into eternal hell, a prison cell, never to be free again, never to love or be loved again.
But now it's time I get to goin'
But now it's time I get to find my own way
And I'll leave you lonely
Both of them move on, leaving each other alone on their respective side. Not their side. Not alone together. Just alone. Just lonely.
