Another thing about the second “fine things” scene…Stede remembers himself as being all dashing in that first scene (and he is). But here…he’s not dashing. He’s a bit shy. He doesn’t know how to explain the whole cursed suit story. He gets a little embarrassed when Ed repeats “you wear fine things well.” He has no fine things anymore. He was trying to get together a big fancy ship again to impress Ed, and he doesn’t even own an extra suit of clothes now. He only has himself to offer.

And he’s all that Ed ever wanted.

(I think there’s a lot in Stede no longer having any money or finery, after struggling with the “bored little rich boy” accusations, and Ed being able to give him things, but I’ll have to think about it more.)

the stuff going on at columbia campus rn is genuinely incredible

despite mass arrests by NYPD and several students (including rep ilhan omar’s daughter, isra hirsi) being suspended for their participation and having their university identification deactivated, the gaza solidarity encampment is still going strong well into its second day. def recommend following independent reporter talia jane who is taking part and providing live updates. (talia was the first reporter to break aaron bushnell’s self immolation in february; she was one of the reporters he contacted personally prior to the protest.)

Now that I've ranted on the phone to my fam a bit, I'll just say this. I call utter bullshit here. I refuse to believe no other streamer wanted to make a deal - David implied as much when he said there were many complimentary meetings. This was Zaslav refusing to sell for anything but an insane price tag just like Coyote vs Acme. He knows it would be a hit anywhere else that was willing to fund and market it. And he'd rather sink our ship and take himself down with it than let it flourish and make his company look bad (as if it can look worse at this point).

So you know what? Fuck all this. This is the hill I'll die on. David may have waved the white flag but I won't. We were prepared for a marathon, not a sprint, and two months is not nearly enough for me to throw in the towel. I want to see WBD implode. I won't rest until we get something, anything - a movie, a graphic novel, a Samba's cell phone basement version of s3, I don't care. If streaming is dying, let us put that final nail in its coffin for what it did to us and so many others who have asked for so little and been spat at.

Make some fucking noise about this. It's not over until we say it's over. I love and respect David dearly, but I have a lot of fight left in me.
