Is Your Love Strong Enough? by How To Destroy Angels
Aiight, so there are many things that people have complained about, comparing the American vs Swedish version, Noomi vs Rooney, "toned down Lisbeth" in the American, etcetcetc..., and I can find completely nothing wrong with EITHER of the films because they complement each other. I can't criticize on any one thing (as in completely wailing on them) in both movies.
Except this song in the American version.
I will find examples why both movies are amazing in their own way and nothing tops the other.
Except this song.
The ONLY thing I have beef with in the American version- the only thing I can NOT stand -is this song. This can accurately support all those "Americans toned down Lisbeth" arguments since this is absolutely the farthest thing from representing the series. This series is not about love. I mean, love is SORTA a factor, but you could choose a better song than THIS to describe Lisbeth's "love" to Mikael. Honestly, this song just PUTS Lisbeth on a platter and says "OH LOOK, SHE JUST WANTS HIS LOVE. SHE'LL DO ANYTHING FOR MIKAEL FUCKING BLOMKVIST, EVEN DIE FOR HIM" and all I want to say is a big fat NO.
**Spoilers for the second and third books I guess**
While it's true that Lisbeth gets tied over Mikael fucking Blomkvist during the second and third books (and in which she tries [and succeeds] to get over him) it's not the point of the series, which this song makes it seem like. Lisbeth didn't go head over heels for Mikael in the second/third books. She tried to forget him. She didn't try to get revenge on Erika fucking Berger (although I think she thought about it). She just... accepted it. Of course, she hated herself for falling in love with him, but she eventually got over it. She didn't have those feelings by the last few pages of Hornets' Nest.
The series isn't a love story. It's about the injustice against women. It's about an independent woman trying to set straight the injustice against her that she's been dealing with her entire life. Love is only a fraction of it. And yet this song takes the entire thing and says "lolno Lisbeth only wants Mikael fucking Blomkvist" No. Just no.
I don't know, I always skip this song when it comes up on my playlist since it completely misses the point of the entire Millenium trilogy. I really dislike strongly disliking things, but this one strikes a nerve with me, especially when it's coupled with something like the Millenium Trilogy... I am a low and shallow person, please forgive me ;;;OTL
