Angel of my Heart

Jake Sully x Daughter!Reader

this is a part of a series of continuation scenarios following part 1 part 2, and part 3. enjoyyyyy xx.

A gentle gust blew against your long, dark hair. Loose strands swept in front of your face, slightly disturbing your view as you gazed at the sky. At the tender hour before eclipse, the sky darkened, gaining a rich pigment that resembled the skin of a salmon. Tucking a few strands behind your ear, you sighed, trying to slow your breathing as your heart rate began to climb.

"This used to be my favorite time of day," you whispered to yourself, lowering your gaze to your feet.

"Y/N?" a voice called, snapping you from your thoughts.

Aonung, walking steadily against the elastic material that led to your family's quarters, gave you a polite smile.

"Aonung," you greeted, a small smile tugging at your lips, "Hi."

As he grew close, your gaze fell to his hands, noticing his careful grip on a small, woven pouch. Curious, you raised your eyes to his when he reached a stop.

"Oel ngati kameie," he spoke deeply, raising his hand to his forehead before motioning outwards, "How are you tonight?"

"Oel ngati kameie," you replied, repeating the motion, "I'm alright. You?"

He shrugged, lowering his gaze. "Alright," he replied before meeting your eyes, once again, "A bit better now, I suppose."

A familiar feeling, one that you only felt in Aonung's presence, made itself known in your stomach. Your smile widened as you broke from his gaze, looking down before eyeing the ocean.

"I--well, my sister, actually," he began, causing you to turn back to him, "wanted to gift you with this. She said something about you losing the first one you had."

Lifting his hands, he handed the woven pouch to you, spiking your curiosity. Acting gently, you loosened the tie and opened the bag. Aonung watched you carefully.

Before reaching in, you peeked up at him. "What is it?" you teased.

When his shoulders relaxed, and a playful smile danced over his lips, your heart swelled. Raising his eyebrows, he gestured to the bag and answered.

"You must open the surprise to find out for yourself."

A giggle escaped your lips as you looked back down. Once your eyes fell on the small object inside, your heart soared.

"Oh," you gasped, reaching inside and lifting the object small out, "Yes I--my anklet! I lost it when . . ."

As you trailed off, Aonung nodded, a silent assurance that you didn't need to explain further.

The woven accessory, soft against your touch, contained various shades of green--ranging from dark forest greens to lighter, leafier greens. At the ends, dainty green beads dangled loosely.

"The colors," you breathed, turning it over in your hands, "they remind me so much of--"

"The forest," Aonung finished, making you look up and nod, "That was done intentionally."

For a moment, you stared at him silently. Under your gaze, he shifted slightly, looking away before speaking again. "Well, she hopes you like it."

Another smile, wider this time, pulled at your lips. "I do," you replied, glancing down at the gift in awe, "I really do."

Upon hearing your words, Aonung peeked back down at you, his lips briefly turning upwards. "She will be glad to hear it."

"Give her this for me."

Aonung barely had time to face you before you closed your arms around his waist. His eyes widened as he stepped back once, balancing himself as you embraced him. For a moment, his arms hovered in the air, unsure of how to react to your sudden act of affection. However, as he looked down, taking in the sight of your head resting against his chest, he felt something shift internally.

Releasing a breath, he carefully wrapped an arm around your back and placed his other hand on your head.

"Very glad that you like it," he spoke lowly, preparing to rest his head over yours.

However, he halted his actions as his eyes fell on Jake, who had suddenly appeared from behind the hut. Jake, who had initially been looking down, raised his head before freezing. Their eyes met for a split second before Aonung released you, moving as though you'd burned him.

Taking your hands, Aonung patted the anklet a couple of times. "You keep this. My father needs me. I must be going."

Slightly startled, but nonetheless grateful, you nodded gently before sending him a brief smile. The boy lowered his gaze and hurried in the opposite direction, accelerating his pace to a slight jog.

Jake, who had since snapped from his brief state of shock, narrowed his eyes as he watched Aonung flee from your side. Then, after taking a few steps forward, keeping his eyes on the teenage boy, he rested a gentle hand on your shoulder.

When you jumped, Jake snapped his gaze down to you.

"Oh, I'm sorry," he breathed, placing his other hand on your shoulder and squeezing gently, "I'm sorry, sweetheart."

"It's okay," you answered, chuckling dryly as you looked up, "I'm sorry. It's me. I'm just so--"

"Hey," Jake cut in, shaking his head as he turned you, "It's not you. It's never you, alright?"

Sighing, you nodded, fiddling with the anklet in your grasp. A smile ghosted his lips as he cupped your chin for a moment before releasing you. "What did Aonung want?"

"Oh!" you responded, as your lips turned upwards, "Look! You know how I lost my anklet? Tsireya made another one for me!"

Jake's heart swelled at your visible excitement. "Really? Is this it?" he asked, holding his hand out for you to place it in, "Huh, lots of green."

"For the forest," you replied, turning it over in his hand, "See, even the beads match."

Jake nodded before glancing back in the direction where Aonung disappeared. Unable to withhold his burning question, he spoke again.

"And Tsireya couldn't deliver it to you herself?"

"She probably got caught up helping her mom," you answered, gently taking the anklet from his hand, "Besides, I haven't seen Aonung in a minute. It was nice to have a run in with him."

Jake's eyes still gazed past you. "Uh huh."

Finally catching where his mind was at, you looked up at your father. Then, feeling a subtle strike of delinquency, you tucked the anklet between your upper lip and nose. Frowning up, you pursed your lips and crossed your arms.

"Are you gonna threaten Aonung for acknowledging my existence?"

This broke Jake from his thoughts. After his eyes landed on you, he looked you up and down, taking in your comical pose before a smirk tugged on his lips.

"Not unless you want me to," he answered.

When your face fell, the anklet fell from your lips. Jake caught it before it landed, chuckling as he straightened back up. "Come on," he said, nodding towards the hut, "I'll knot this for you."

Pouting teasingly, you edged your way towards the hut. Jake, who had looked out at the water for a moment, did a double-take when he glanced at you. Narrowing his eyes playfully, he reached out, growling threateningly as you dodged his grasp and ran inside. You let out a minor yelp as you ran, making Jake tilt his head back with a laugh as he followed you inside.

"Oh, and for the record," Jake spoke up, settling himself on the floor, "A hug is more than acknowledging someone's existence."

"It wasn't for him," you countered, sitting across from him, "It was for Tsireya. I just asked him to pass it to her."

Raising an eyebrow, Jake didn't bother to hide the skepticism in his eyes. Releasing a sigh, you shook your head before breaking your gaze from his.

"It was harmless, Daddy. I swear it."

Relaxing his face, Jake glanced out the hut one last time, before turning his attention back to you. "Alright, sweetheart," he breathed.

When you didn't respond, he leaned forward, placing a hand over your knee. "Alright," he emphasized, with a tilt of his head.

Looking up, you connected your eyes with his and gave him a gentle smile. He flashed one in return before leaning back.

"Okay," he said, patting his lap, "Which ankle do you want? Same as last time?"

"Mhm," you hummed, "Right one please."

When you lifted your right leg, he took your ankle and placed it on his thigh. Then, handling the anklet with gentle hands, he wrapped it just above your foot and began knotting it. For a moment, you watched him in silence. Then, as the hut suddenly grew darker, your head snapped towards the opening. Outside the wide arch, you had a slight view of the eclipsing sun.

Jake glanced up, finishing his last knot as he watched you carefully. He didn't miss perturbed expression that crossed your face. Finishing with one last pull, he patted your ankle.

"Good to go," he said, grabbing your attention.

When you looked down at your ankle, a small smile pulled at your lips. "Thanks, Dad," you whispered, pulling your foot close.

He watched you for a moment--watched as you tucked your knees to your chest, wrapped your arms around your calves, and placed your chin between your knees. He began to reach out, but stopped himself as he decided on another course of action.

As he stood up, your eyes followed his movements, curiosity overtaking your gaze. He smiled briefly, nodding towards the doorway. Once he sat back down, facing the outside of the hut, his hand motioned you over.

With a quick jump, you raised yourself to a squat before straightening up and walking up to him. However, rather than sitting next to him, you settled yourself behind him, wrapping your arms around his neck and resting your chin on his shoulder. Jake released a breathy chuckle, placing his hands over your forearms and pecking your temple.

"Y/N."

"Mm?"

"You remember what I told you? About letting me know when things are bothering you?"

Tucking your head down, you nodded. "Mhm."

Sensing your hesitance to open up, Jake released a small breath. Shifting his gaze from you, he stared at the sky, deciding it was time to be more direct. "Tell me about the eclipse."

You were quiet for a moment, before a dry chuckle escaped your lips. "You catch everything, don't you, Dad?"

His hand reclaimed its place on your forearm. Turning his head, he spoke closely to you. "Always," he replied, "You're my little girl. It's my job."

As his words lingered in the air, your mind wandered back to the moments before your first death. Being sprawled out on the rock, the blood running down your chest, the devastation in your father's tearful eyes--all things that made your chest constrict.

Recognizing the shift in your mental state, Jake immediately unwrapped your arms from his neck. "C'mere," he instructed softly, pulling you around him, "Let's switch."

Once he plopped you onto his lap, he wrapped his arms around your biceps, engulfing you completely. Closing your eyes, you took a moment to enjoy the feeling of being held. His arms, muscular signs of security, anchored your swirling mind. Then, after a long moment, and a long breath release, you reopened your eyes.

"It was the last thing," you whispered, making Jake tilt his head to get a glimpse of your face.

"What was the last thing?" he asked, rubbing a thumb over your arm.

"Just like your voice was the last thing I heard, the eclipse was the last thing I saw," you whispered, closing your eyes and lowering your head, "It haunts me every time I see it."

Jake's ears folded back as he released a small breath, his mind tortured by the agonizing vision of your dying expression. Then, pulling you closer, he began placing multiple kisses on your head--moving from your hair to your temple to your ear to your cheek. After running a brief hand over your head, before wrapping it back around you, he prepared to respond. However, you spoke up before he could.

"It used to be my favorite time of day--eclipse," you continued, shaking your head as your gaze remained low, "but now . . . every time I see the sun disappear . . . I can't escape it--the unease, the fear, the flashbacks. Every time I think I'm moving past it, eclipse comes and reopens the wound, and it's fresh in my mind every night."

As Jake listened, he quickly made the connection between your ongoing nightmares and eclipse.

If eclipse brings the memories back in a fresh wave every night . . . Jake thought to himself, No wonder she's dealing with these night terrors.

"Every time the sun disappears, I feel as though my return to the Great Mother is among us," you finished, shivering in his arms.

Though he knew your chill wasn't from coldness, for a brief moment, Jake subconsciously rubbed his hands over your arms before wrapping them around you again. Looking up, you stared out to the horizon. Jake processed your words and shook his head, closing his eyes as a searing pain shot through his heart.

"Baby girl," he began, speaking in a hushed voice, "I can't even begin to tell you how sorry I am. For all of this. It was my fault. It was my job to keep you safe--it still is--and to make sure that nothing in this world hurts you. I'll . . . I'll never forgive myself for failing you the first time around."

Frowning, you turned to face him, cupping his cheek with your smaller hand. "Daddy . . . Daddy," you called, making him open his eyes to look at you, "Not once have you ever failed me. What happened that night was beyond your control. Quaritch was beyond your control. The sky people returning was beyond your control. In those last moments, you and I--" You paused, feeling yourself grow choked up.

Jake's eyebrows creased as his gentle eyes held your gaze. Though he knew that you were the one trying to offer him words of comfort, he could never disregard his paternal instinct to console you anytime you grew dewy-eyed.

Cupping your cheek, he began rubbing his thumb over your prominent cheekbone. However, you quickly removed his large hand from your skin, holding it with both of yours.

Your voice came out as a pained whimper, but you forced yourself to get the words out. "You and I both knew what was happening--what was going to happen," you said, making Jake blow a breath out of his nose and lower his head briefly, "B-But you--"

Cupping your father's cheeks, you forced him to meet your eyes, once again--an action he'd done with you countless times. When he did, you pressed your palm against his chest. "When that realization hit me, and I grew panicked, you gave me peace," you continued, "Because of you, I wasn't afraid to let go. You had the strength to make sure that I wouldn't be afraid to die."

Jake shook his head, eyes filling with tears as he let out a sob. He cupped both of your cheeks before pulling you into his chest, folding his arms around you.

"My sweet girl," he choked, squeezing you against him and running a shaky hand over your hair, "God . . . . God, my sweet angel."

"P-Please don't call yourself a failure, Daddy," you whimpered, squeezing your eyes shut as you pressed into his skin, "It hurts me because you're my heart, and I don't blame you for any of this." A small sob escaped your lips now, though you tried to hold it back. "I'm just so frightened now. Not of dying, or joining the Great Mother, but frightened of losing you again."

Jake let out another breath, wishing only to squeeze you tighter, but restraining himself--knowing that he had the potential to hurt you.

"We share the same fear, baby," he answered, placing his chin over your head, "I can't lose you either. Never again."

Then, after a moment spent in thought, he tilted his head down, placing the pads of three of his fingers against your chin and gently coaxing your head up. When you felt his tender touch, you instantly obeyed his silent command, connecting your eyes with his.

"And you and I--we're many things to each other. I'm many things to you. But 'your heart'?" Jake continued, shaking his head, "I can't . . . I can't let you give me that title. I, alone, don't deserve a title so generous."

Pressing your lips together, you leaned up, taking his hand from your chin and holding it. "Who wanted to take me back home? Who wanted to give it a try, even though I had already joined the Great Mother?"

The tension in his face eased, though the solemnity never left his eyes. His lack of answer was enough for you. Smiling slightly, you placed his hand over your heart.

"It's beating because you demanded it to beat again. You are my heart, Daddy. It is decided."

The two of you held each others' gazes for a long moment. Then, after releasing a breath from his nose, a smile began to tug at Jake's lips. Cupping both sides of your head, he pulled you close and kissed your forehead. However, rather than pulling away, he closed his eyes and pressed his forehead against yours. You mirrored him, closing your eyes, as well.

After a long moment of comfortable silence, you gathered the courage to share another burden with your father--one that you'd been holding for days.

"Daddy?" you whispered, making him open his eyes.

"Hm?" he hummed, focusing his gaze on you.

Your eyes remained closed as you spoke. "Can I tell you something else?"

A minuscule spark of joy spread through him. Nothing made him happier than seeing you let your walls down to him. "Anything that's on your mind, sweet girl."

Pulling back, you opened your eyes. However, you kept your gaze low, focusing on Jake's necklace, rather than meeting his eyes.

"I'm afraid I've brought our family shame."

Jake frowned. "What?" he breathed, beginning to shake his head, "No. No, no, sweetheart, you haven't. What happened might have been beyond my control, but it sure as hell wasn't in your control, either."

"That's not what I mean," you replied, looking away briefly.

Jake's shoulders sunk as his frown eased. "Oh," he spoke, "Then, how do you mean?"

You sighed, feeling embarrassment creep up your spine, swirling around your chest and stomach. "I've lost my connection to the water."

Jake blinked at you. His lack of response made you fumble into a series of excuses. "I-It's just--ever since--I just look at the water and I can't bring myself to--I mean, I haven't swam properly since it all--"

Jake reached out, gently cupping the back of your neck. "Y/N," Jake hushed you, "Y/N."

For a brief moment, he placed a finger on your lips, silencing your rambles. Once you fell silent, receiving the message, he adjusted his hands to hold your chin, gripping it between his thumb and forefinger.

"Sweetheart," he began, looking away briefly as a chuckle pushed its way through his lips, "I swear, I'm gonna get this through that thick skull of yours, if it's the last thing I do."

Your lips parted as you absorbed his words. Jake looked back at you, his pointer gently rubbing against the skin beneath your chin.

"None of this is on you. Absolutely none of it. You got that?" he continued, waiting for you to nod.

When you did, his gaze remained unmoving.

"You sure?" he asked, raising his eyebrows and tilting his head, "I know you can be as stubborn as your mother, sometimes."

"I got it," you answered meekly, keeping your gaze down.

"That was pathetic," he replied flatly, briefly using his finger to tickle the skin beneath your chin, "C'mon, a little more feeling."

A giggle spilled from your lips as you pulled away, gripping the hand that held your chin.

"I got it," you replied, louder this time as you met his eyes with raised eyebrows.

"You gonna stop worryin' that pretty little head of yours about it?"

Embarrassment crossed your face. Leaning down, you shoved your face into his chest. "Yes," you mumbled, feeling him shake as he chuckled.

"Good," Jake answered, a smirk fading from his lips, "Now--hey, look at me."

Jake tried to lean you back up, but you dodged his hand. Then, rolling over, you laid your head against his left thigh, bending your knees and placing your feet down to support yourself. Smiling softly, Jake reached down and cupped your chin with both hands, rubbing his thumbs over your skin.

"Between you and the water," he continued, "you're just dealing with some PTSD."

When your face fell, he released a sigh. "I'm afraid things like this are inevitable, baby. They're gonna happen. But, we can always find ways around them. And, you and I, we're gonna deal with it together. Alright?"

As you looked into his eyes, relief seeped into your veins. Without saying a word, he communicated your safeness with him. With his eyes, he let you know that, even if the Metkayina had thoughts on your temporary disconnect with the water, he would be the first to jump in front of you, guarding every blow before it could touch you.

Nodding your head, you released a breath. "Thanks, Daddy," you whispered, reaching up to grip one of his wrists, "Truly. I can't thank you enough for always being . . . here. For always listening. For caring."

He shook his head. "I don't like that you're thanking me for doing the bare minimum," he answered matter-of-factly, "You're mine, and I'll always be here, whether you like it or not."

"Even if you have to go off, and be Toruk Makto again?"

Jake removed a loose strand of hair from your forehead. Then, he leaned in slightly, raising his eyebrows in the process. "Being your heart is more important to me than being Toruk Makto, angel."

Giving him a close-lipped smile and shutting your eyes, you said nothing in response--fulfilled by his weighted words.

As endeared as Jake was--with your head lying in his lap--he wanted you closer. "C'mere," he rasped, patting his thighs.

Opening your eyes, you gave him a confused look. "I'm here."

"Well, I can't hold you from down there," he retorted, raising his eyebrows as you snorted.

"Hold my face," you sassed, closing your eyes again, "I'm comfy."

Jake tilted his head, narrowing his eyes. A mischievous snarl crossed his face. "Is that so?" he asked, his tone a little too sweet for your liking.

Barely having time to open your eyes, he gripped your midsection and yanked you up. Gasping, you broke into a fit of laughter as he closed his arms around you. It was the same position he had you in earlier, however, his grip was much less relenting, this time.

"I said I wanna hold you," he growled, pressing his face against your twitching ear as you laughed, "You gonna make me pull out the old tricks?"

"Old tricks?" you attempted to hiss, "Please."

"Is that a challenge?" he inquired, raising an eyebrow, before leaning in to blow in your ear, "How much're we bettin'?"

Your eyes widened as you tried to lean away. "No!" you hollered, fighting giggles as you tried to distance yourself from him, "No, stop it, Dad! I'm not five anymore!"

"And?"

He shook his head in your neck, making you cackle as your cheeks burned with embarrassment. However, your embarrassment spiked as a large shadow fell over your face, making you open your eyes.

With your head leaned back, you had an upside down view of Tonowari. Gasping, you leaned up, gazing at your lap as your face blazed with fire.

"Apologies," Tonowari spoke up, unable to hold back his chuckles, "I do not mean to intrude."

Jake shook his head, chuckling with him. "You aren't."

Swallowing your pride, you looked up at the Metkayina chief, preparing to greet him properly. "Oel ngati kameie, Olo'eyktan Tonowari."

Jake looked down at you, pride spreading across his face. Tonowari gave you a fond smile as he took a knee. "Oel ngati kameie, young one," he replied, before turning to Jake, "Oel ngati kameie, Jakesully."

"Oel ngati kameie," Jake replied politely.

Tonowari, then, turned to you, once again. "Are you well, my child?"

Your shoulders sunk as the tension within your body eased. "I am . . . as well as I can be."

Jake ran a hand over your hair as Tonowari nodded once. "I understand," he answered, "On behalf of The People, my children, my wife, and myself, we are grateful to have you back with us."

Your heart swelled at his words. Visibly lighting up, you placed a hand on your heart. "Thank you, sir. I am overjoyed to be back with you all. Thank you for continuing to provide our family with sanctuary."

After nodding again, he replied. "You will always have a place here."

Upon hearing his words, your organs warmed, feeling as though a swarm of glowfish were traveling through your veins. Though Jake was always your primary paternal figure, you couldn't help the pleasure you felt in pleasing the chief of the Metkayina--and father to friends you held dear.

"If you don't mind, may I borrow your sempul for a moment?" Tonowari asked, raising his eyebrows in question.

Turning your head, you looked to Jake. Jake met your eyes, smiling softly before nodding towards the hut. "Go on. I'll be there in a minute."

Nodding, you turned to Tonowari before nodding politely. Tonowari nodded, watching with a smile as Jake helped you off of his lap before you walked into the hut. Before you left his sights, however, his eyes fell to the anklet.

Jake and Tonowari stood up before edging away from the hut. As both men walked, they stood tall--each carrying himself regally.

"She likes the gift Aonung made for her?" Tonowari inquired, making Jake turn to him in confusion.

"I thought Tsireya made it."

Tonowari frowned. "Tsireya? No. She's been working on another gift for your 'ite."

"Oh," Jake replied, turning his gaze forward.

Coming to a stop, Tonowari turned to face Jake. "I am here to check on the child's state--on behalf of my mate, as well. She has experienced something beyond our comprehension."

Pressing his lips together, Jake released a breath from his nose. "Yeah. I know."

Reading Jake's emotions, the chief tilted his head. "Is she struggling?"

Jake looked away, closing his eyes for a moment before answering. "Yeah. A lot. There's a lot that she's . . . struggling to bounce back from--which is only natural. Still, though, I hate seeing her in so much pain."

"It has left her troubled?"

"Haunted. Very."

"Mm," Tonowari hummed, "Well, I will allow you to aid her with her recovery, in any way you see fit. However, do not be afraid to come to us--should you seek other methods. Ronal wishes to assist her in any way she can."

Nodding gratefully, Jake answered him. "Thank you. We will definitely keep that in mind."

The two men gripped forearms, acknowledging one another respectfully, before separating.

"Go on," Tonowari said, nodding towards the hut, "I know you are eager to return to her."

Jake scoffed lightheartedly, glancing back, not denying the chief's words.

"Sleep well."

Jake nodded. "You, as well."

PICK YOUR SIDE (rewrite)
includes : fem!reader. cursing. implied death. older sister!reader. younger sister!reader. reader is older than lo’ak but younger than neteyam. angst. read with caution (?). i’m leaving this on a cliffhanger.

they say a picture is worth a thousand words. you beg to differ. the smiles of your family members made your mouth go sour. who knew it would go so wrong so quickly.

your fingers trailed over the family photo in your hand, stopping over neteyam’s face. he was such a bright soul, he must’ve been so scared.

it’s been a few years since neteyam had passed. there to be exact. the family went somewhat back to normal but the home you all once shared felt more dull and dim than normal.

you all left neteyam’s things untouched. his bow still in the same place. his pillow positioned in the same way. you all just couldn’t move it, feeling like you were slowly removing parts of neteyam by touching his things.

your family all grieved him in different ways. some ways were healthy and some were questionable. but you didn’t feel the need to bring it up. you were dealing with your own feelings. you felt hurt, betrayed, guilty and most of all, angry. your anger was a force to be reckoned with per-say. you did a good job at hiding it, pushing it down for 3 years straight.

your father experienced the most change out of all of you. becoming more protective of the rest of you all, never wanting to experience that kind of loss ever again. so when quartich and the rda came back, he immediately shut down the idea of helping them fight.

‘but father please i-‘ ‘y/n that’s final. you will stay here with lo’ak and tuk.’ yet again your father dismissed you, your mother flashing you a pitiful expression as she followed your father.

it wasn’t fair. you deserved just as much as a chance as they did. you could help them. you could avenge your brothers death. neteyam didn’t deserve to die in vain.

lo’ak appeared behind you, a large hand on your shoulder. lo’ak grew into such a mature young man, he was 17 now, a true warrior. he mirrored neteyam so much it brought tears to your eyes.

‘go. i’ll watch tuk. go help them fight’ he said, placing something in your hand. it was neteyam’s bow and a few of his arrows. ‘lo’ak no i can’t-‘. lo’ak said nothing as he pushed you out of your home, giving you a small smile before running back in.

you quickly caught up to your parents. jake didn’t speak as he figured you would come anyways despite his warning. he knew you were just like lo’ak, hard headed and stubborn. neytiri didn’t want to admit it but she was glad you were there.

the three of you managed to make your way deeper into the forest, your bodies on constant high alert. your ear twitched as you heard a twig snap, neck snapping towards the noise as you quickly lined up the arrow with his bow, whispering a quick ‘make this one count neteyam..’ before the figure jumped out at you, holding its hands up and yelling ‘don’t shoot it’s me!’ you instantly recognized the voice as spider, lowering your bow and sighing. ‘you’re lucky i didn’t kill you’ not knowing the events that would take place there shortly afterwards.

your dad had alerted you that they had found quartich a few moments later, turning your attention from spider and bolting your way towards the cliff they were on, spider hot on your tail.

you watched as your father and the man who’s tortured your family for years tussled, both men slightly wounded from the brawl. ‘mom! dad!’ you yelled, turning their attention to you. just then quartich quickly kicked jake off of him, radioing in for the helicopter to come down and get him.

your father rubbed his nose and your mother ran up to you, screening for any injury. ‘mother i am fine..’ the winds from the helicopter propellers made your hair fly into your face, watching as your father just let him go. ‘you son of a bitch i thought we killed you already!’ he yelled over the noise.

quartich just let out a sinister laugh, looking behind them and winking. ‘you have my boy to thank! saving his old man like a son should!’

your world froze. your blood went cold. the sound of the bow and arrows hitting the floor like blocks on a carpet. you couldn’t help but slowly turn around, horror painted across your face as you met eyes with the boy who you thought of as a friend. as a brother.

‘boy..is this true’ jake said, the noise was gone as quartich flew away. spider was silent. the 3 year long feeling of guilt eating away at his insides as he put his head down, shame written all over his face.

neytiri said nothing, afraid she was going to severely harm the boy yet again, she stayed silent, yet her eyes told a million words at once.

you felt like you couldn’t breathe. you felt like the world was caving under you as you stalked over to the boy. ‘did you..really?’ you asked, your voice nothing short of a whisper. he met eyes with you, giving a shameful nod.

in that moment you felt nothing but rage. 1,065 days of rage. the nights and days you stayed up sobbing, wishing to yourself that it was you. praying to eywa to bring your brother back. 3 years of suppressed anger bubbling over like tea in a kettle.

everything moved in an instant. one minute you were in front of the boy, now you are dangling him from the cliff, his cries and pleads with you to spare his life were muffled as your mind was spinning every which way.

‘y/n no!’ your father tried to rush over to you but neytiri was quick to stop him. while she disliked the human boy, her body tensed up watching you hold him over the ledge. one wrong move and you both were done for. ‘ma jake..if you go..they will both fall’ she said, holding a tight grip on her husband. jake looked surprised at you. you couldn’t even hurt a fly if you tried and here you were, on the verge of killing spider.

he felt bad for both parties. spider was just a boy protecting his family, as jake does with his own family. and you were his grieving daughter. he felt for you but he also felt for spider

‘y/n just think about this..you don’t have to do this..killing him won’t bring neteyam back..you gain nothing from this..’ he said, breaking from neytiris grip, stalking over to you with his hand extended, hoping you would break out of this trance and realize what you’re doing.

‘father..you really want to save this human? he’s the reason your son is dead.. your precious golden child..and you want to save him?” you looked back at your father, leaning spider over the edge even further, almost slipping in the process.

‘y/n!’ your mother called, now behind jake as she’s trying desperately to pull you back, afraid to lose another child.

‘i’m going to give you both a choice..pick your side..me?’ you said turning to them, angry tears now streaming down your face. you slowly turned your head to the now sobbing boy as he continued to beg and plead for his life.

‘or the bitch im gonna kill?’

You're dead to me [3]

dad!Jake Sully x human!daughter!reader
In which Jake Sully leaves his life on earth to settle down with the Omatikaya people as Toruk Makto. Having a family that consists of four kids with Neytiri, everything seems to work out just fine, but what if the past comes back for him? And his babygirl is right there in front of him?

warning: english isn't my first language, barely proofread, a lot of awkward tension cause Neytiri and humans + reader being in conflict, terrible na'vi sentence.

Painter Baby

Pairing- Sully Family x Sully!reader

Summary- You are the artistic child of Jake and Neytiri.

Pt.1 Pt.2

A/N- i was going to post this yesterday but I reread that one so I re did it and like this one better and @tejas-kris you asked me to tag you 🤭

You weren't as great a warrior as Neteyam, weren't as good a healer as Kiri, definitely not as impulsive as Lo'ak but there was something that you could do that your siblings couldn't. You could paint. You had found that smashing flowers and plants mixed with hox tree maple made a paste like substance. You began to draw and paint with it and you were actually good.

Obviously you didn't want to tell your mother and father, ecspecally your father. Not wanting to disapont them in your fathers words, ''You need to train in case the sky people come back you don't need to know useless stuff.'' He told you whenever you would show him something other than training related. So you gave yourself this, painting time just for you no one to judge you no one to speculate you just you.

And you didn't just blatantly paint, it was something in your lines something in your fingers and leafs you used as brushes that seemed alive, something of passion.

When you were mad, sad, happy anything you would put all of that energy to your next painting. You could do all kinds of painting realism to abstract anything to express how you feel and how you see your home how you see yourself. Eywa has given you something.

So there you were behind a huge boulder hidden behind a bundle of vines, you were supposed to be training with your siblings instead you ran your fingers around a circle with green paste. ''No no thats not the right shade of green.'' You quietly cursed yourself. ''Y/N'' you heard your name being called not far away by multiple vices. Eyes going wide you cover up your current canvas up and quickly rush over to a small river washing off the multiple color paste on your hands. ''There you are.'' the voice said the voice belonging to Neteyam and your other siblings trailing not far behind him. ''Dad is going to skin you alive if he knew you were skipping training.'' Neteyam hissed. ''What were you doing anyway?'' Lo'ak asked as the group watched you scrub the paint from your hands.

''It is nothing.'' You reply trying to stir them farther away from you stuff. ''You have stuff all over your face and hands, tell me or I'll tell mom.'' Tuk says making me hiss ''Tuk stop it, are you okay y/n'' Kiri asked concerned. You think for a second what is the worst that could happen if you tell them. ''Fine I'll show you.'' You say catching all of them off gaurd.

''Tell me where we are going.'' Lo'ak complained as you venture a little deeper into the woods. ''We are here.'' I say as we stop infront of a cover of vines. ''Sister there is nothing.'' Neteyam said confused. ''Are you all right, maybe she hit her head on the last raid.'' Lo'ak says whispering the last part making you roll your eyes. Pulling the vines aside you allowed them into your space.

Stepping in behind them you look around at the familiar space. The entire scenery was covered in paintings some of people, some of bugs, plants, fruit, everything it was a beautiful art gallery. Lo'ak touched one painting of his face it truly did look like him. Tuk played with a huge leaf that had the entire family painted on it. ''You did this?'' Neteyam asks as his hands trace over a few abstract peices. ''Yes I did.'' you answered organizing your paints and brushes. ''It is amazing why have you not told us about it.'' Kiri says, ''Becasue I did not want you to tell father cause Eywa knows what he'd have to say about this.'' You sigh. She shakes he head then her eyes venture over to the boulder. Jogging over there you stop her before she pulled the curtain it off.

''It is not done.'' You say breathlessly. ''Oh okay.'' she replies as a wave of relief washed over you. "Okay now that I have showed you tell me that you will not tell mom or dad." You say serious tone intact. "Okay but can we come here with you when you paint?" Tuk asked excited at the thought of seeing and helping you paint. "Okay sometimes when I say it okay." Tuk squeals in happiness as you rush them out of your studio.

That's what you did when you painted sometimes you would allow Kiri and Tuk to come along it Lo'ak and Neteyam or whoever wanted to come along. And sometimes when you had paint on your face they would take up for you, at least they have your back.

Now you are standing inside you and your families home getting badgered at by Jake for not following orders during a raid, "But if I didn't go Lo'ak would be dea-" you argue with your dad. "I do not care you did not follow order-" "No! I would rather not follow orders than let my brother die." You come back at him. "You were reckless stupid." He said and then something snapped you threw your bow at him making him stumble back. "You know what I'm not doing this take this shit I'm out." You say running off into the forest.

You left everyone shocked, now it had been hours since you left eclipse was over the forest and now Lo'ak was mad. "See what you did." He yelled catching Jake as well has the others off guard. "All she was trying to do was save me and you were yelling at her." He yelled not giving Jake a second to talk. "You know if you let her talk once in a while she wouldn't have ran off but all you do is yell and train her when was the last time you had a conversation with Y/N, your daughter." Lo'ak spoke face flustered with his emotions.

Then the realization of his son's hit him, he did treat you like a solider and he really couldn't remember the last conversation he had with you that wasn't training related and that made him angry with himself. He ran his hand over him face, "Okay okay but first we need to find her," he said sitting down on a chair, "but where would she go." He spoke to himself and the others in the room.

The children all looked at each other and nodded their head to each other, "We know where." Kiri was the first to speak. "What." Neytiri spoke making her kids come closer. "She has a place she goes to and does stuff she likes." Neteyam was the second to explain. "Let's draw them a map." Tuk said. "Yeah yeah that's a good idea Tuk, c'mon." Jake said as he turned to his other kids as they began to draw a map.

It took a minute as they argued over directions, "Okay and it will look like a bunch of vines but pull it back and it should be there." Neteyam said handing his father the map. "Good this is good watch your siblings while we go get her." Jake told Neteyam who only nodded his head before him and Neytiri headed to where you were, they hoped.

As for you, your siblings knew you to well cause you were your art studio, at first you just threw you red and black paints on a new canvas cursing at your father at yourself at Eywa for making you not like your siblings. And then that wasn't enough pulling the sheet off the boulder continuing the unfinished painting as tears fell from your eyes. "I just wanna be enough why can't I be enough for you asshole." You muttered as your hands fumbled at the boulder smearing black paint on it.

Jake and Neytiri found the place the kids instructed them to pulling the vines back Neytiri went in first weapon up defensively Jake along with her. They put it back as they saw you painting, paint covering your hands along with brushes, some on your face, tears falling from your eyes and their hearts broke a little. Jake could feel a price of his soul burning he caused you to cry like this.

It seemed that you were to caught up with painting to realize they were there so they watched you and then they saw the Canvas.

It was them.

It was truly them, you had every detail to a small freckle your mother has under her eyebrow that only you would notice. And they saw you how a small tear fell from your eye as you finished Jake's last stripe on his face.

And when you saw them you gasped. "What are you doing here." You asked. "We came to get you Y/N you scared us running away." Neytiri said. Jake looked around it was magnificent and you made it. Was he truly that blind to see his daughter had a beautiful gift and it seemed she loved it. "Yeah right." You reply putting your stuff away.

"Y/N.." Jake says voice breaking a little. "Yes." You say holding all the emotions you had bottled up. "My daughter I am so so sorry." He said and those words fell from his mouth the tears flowed out and you back away. "I have been blind you, you are amazing." Those words oh how you have waited for him to say that all your childhood. They came closer now in front of you, not there usual intimidating stare that made you feel small and incompetent. But with loving and sad eyes that made you feel like their little girl again.

And then you fell into thier open arms, getting a little paint on them but they did not care they only cared about you right now.

After you tears calmed down you all sat down, "It is beautiful Y/N." Your mother complimented your art work that was in the boulder. "Thank you." You said gently with a smile.

And then you had a conversation, a real conversation. Nothing about war, training, just talking. You told them how you really loved to paint and was to scared to tell them. That hurt both of them but understood why. And then you showed them all of your works, you showed them a few you made of them and your family and them one of the forest and tree of souls and then your abstract pieces Neytiri loves those. And by the end of the talk Jake's heart swelled with understatement and happiness for his daughter.

But now that they know good luck having to do quiet a few portraits (Lo'ak and Jake).

heyyy, could you maybe write a fic with the entire sully family x reader, where she is part of the metkayina clan, and after they get to stay she has to introduce the family to everything (instead of tsireya and aonung). They get closer and she’s a good friend to them.

She is very sweet, loves children and treats tuk like her own (this is a key element hihi)

So one day, after she goes out with tuk to entertain her, they get attacked by someone you can decide (I’m sorry but I need something angsty😭) and reader protects tuk and saves her life.

But, and here comes the “plot twist”, the sully’s misunderstand the situation and think reader did it on purpose or was trying to hurt tuk and they’re all angry and furious at her, not letting her explain.

So she retreats and doesn’t leave her marui pod for days, until someone from the clan clears it up, and they apologise to her… YOU CAN DECIDE THE ENDING, WETHER ITS HAPPY OR SAD!!!!

Thank u in advance and I have to say, I absolutely love your writing, every time I finish one of ur fics I crave moreeeee!!!❤️

summary: [y/n] saves the life of tuk, but at what cost?

a/n: hopefully this turned out good !! i’m kind of bad when it comes to misunderstanding trope because i kind of hate it ( whoopsies ) but i think it turned out okay ?? i’m just glad i finally was able to publish something after a few days. reblogs + feedback are always appreciated !!

warnings: mentions of blood, injury, fear, a monster-like creature pursuing tuk and [y/n], jake and neytiri being kind of mean, scars, almost dying, passing out, a lil angst, happyish ending

words: 2.4k

i would do it again

she hadn’t meant for it to go the way that it did. everytime she replayed the scene in her head, tears pricked [y/n]’s eyes. what could’ve happened—what should’ve happened. she continued to thank eywa that both her and tuk made it out alive and safe.

Can you write a fic about Jake sully x reader where she has a terrible father and she completely shut him out of her life and one day he comes back for reader and Jake is just super protective over her? <3

father!jake sully x daughter!reader

You often forget you were once human along with your adoptive father. Then moments would ground you, and remind you of that little star in the sky you’d once call home. And the primal look in your fathers eye right now looked far from human.

You’d never heard your father hiss like that before and you hoped you never did again. Usually, when you did he would playfully bare his fangs at you and you would copy him with a fit of giggles. But his teeth now bared in a show of dominance against the man who held your arm in his.

“Let her go” Jake spat out and the man immediately withdrew his arms from yours. You immediately ran behind him allowing him to press his arm against you, and as Jake stood above you knife drawn and ready, his body covering your own watching your father who stumbled back in terror. You felt like the world would end right then and there, the new life you’d knit together came unraveling in front of you.

Your father made a name for himself as soon as he caught wind of Pandora. When you were younger you were naive to it. All you knew was that daddy would spoil you with a pretty little dress, and a bigger dollhouse cause he got special rocks from this planet in the sky.

Then you got older and you heard things, whispers from the cracked doors of that study. How he was investing his money toward some foreign element with an old college buddy, Parker Selfridge. You were still a child, just well into entering those double digits, but all your knew was from that day on every gift your father gave burned your hands.

You would have given anything to get away from your father. Perhaps you were only there to carry the name, but you ran from that gilded cage long ago. You convinced Grace Augustine you were some young prodigy in the making and the woman was more than welcome to teach you about the plant life on the planet and about the Na’vi people.

Life was beautiful. Following the war, you found this as a gift from Eywa herself, the chance to love and be loved by a real family. Neytiri spent her days on the hunt even while pregnant and you trained by her side, learning the ways of the hunter and the future Tsahik. She loved you fiercely and saw you as hers despite not sharing blood.

None of you expected a search party to be placed, yet here you stood in the grasp of the man who once called you father. Jake saw red when he heard your cries and found you in the arms of the man. His heart thudded in his ears, the world around him a blur as you had his entire focus.

His eyes calculated every nervous shift the man whom you once called father stepped back with his arms in the air. “Y/N tell that thing you are not one of them.”

This only elicited another primal hiss and fangs bared at him and your father took another step back. “Ok, ok.” He took another step and you quickly ran to Jake who kept his eyes trained onto the human but reached a hand back to press into your stomach.

And he rubbed his hand down your back and cooed at you with syrupy words that the man was indeed real. Those sticky sweet words make your stomach burn as you tightened the grip on Jake’s hand. “I wanna go home, please.”

“I know baby, we’re going home. Let me fix this baby.” he whispered back, lacing his fingers with your own and squeezing what strength he had into you.

“Y/N, baby I know things went so badly wrong. But please. Come home baby, we miss you. We’ll do what we can to fix you back and mama is back home ready and waiting. Please baby.” And you felt tears fall, because it was all a lie. Your father used that very tone when you ran up to him in a fit of tears begging to know if your friends were true, that Santa wasn’t real.

“This is home” you retaliated, “not back there. Not where I was a shadow, a guest in the place that was supposed to be home. Mama didn’t want me and you knew it just as much as she did. You abandoned me once you can do it again.” Your nails dug into Jake’s palm as your voice raised and your eyes screwed shut as you pressed your forehead to his back, taking in gasps full of air.

“Y/N.” He took another step forward, arms reached out and Jake lowered himself over you more, tail swishing in agitation as he prepared himself. “Baby I don’t want to cause a muck on this planet, you don’t want to bring unnecessary harm. Just come home and we can leave the natives alone. No unnecessary bloodshed.” His hand once again reached out, the dark glint of metal shined in Jake’s eye.

He knew what that was slung over his shoulder.

Yet just as he went to take another step forward arm reaching to his weapon, an arrow shot from the trees above and lodged itself in front of where your fathers hand would have been had he not moved back fast enough.

Your eyes flickered into the trees above where your mother stood, arrow drawn with another bow. She gracefully leapt down, her stance unwavering as she took a spot beside her mate. Eyes never once leave the human man whose face was painted in fear. “Another word, and I shoot again.”

Silence fell. All you could hear and see was your father whose arms fell in defeat finally turning his back to you, arms raised. When he was far enough your fathers arms gathered you into his chest where he pressed you so tight you feared you would pop.

“You’re fine baby, let it out” his words washed over you as you let your cries out, gripping onto him tightly. His words and Neytiri’s hands stroking your back brought you peace. You were safe, you were home.

“We’re almost there, okay?” You whispered to Grace as you double checked her now wrapped bullet wound.

It had been a couple of hours since you escaped Hell’s Gate. Jake and Norm had Trudy fly to Hallelujah Mountains to grab the camp container which held all four of your avatar transfer pods and now you were trying to find the Tree of Souls. You really didn’t know where this place was but you knew Grace had studied it from afar since outsiders weren’t allowed near it. You weren’t really sure yet what to think of what happened between you two the other night. So right now, not talking to him first thing in the morning was probably the best idea. Especially, when you were already so discombobulated about what you were about to do.

Alienated pt 2
Jake Sully x Daughter reader, featuring brotherly Neteyam this time :) angst angst ANGST trigger warning: mentions of drowning 2862 word count

Jake became more hyper-aware of your detachment, of the fogginess clouding your eyes. He woke you up every morning for breakfast, despite Neytiri insisting that he let you rest, smoothing back your hair.

"Hey there, baby girl, it's time to get up," he whispered, leaving soft kisses on your forehead.

You groaned, trying to push against your father's chest, but your advances were weak, still weighted with exhaustion. "A little longer..."

Jake caught the hand trying to shoo him away and kissed the palm. "You have to eat."

I'm not hungry, you tried to mumble as strong arms wrapped around your back, sitting you upright.

Lo'ak rolled his eyes, chewing loudly. "You coddle her more than Tuk."

Neytiri's glare was icy. "Leave your sister alone."

Food began to lose its taste, its texture. Berries were mush in your mouth, sticking to your teeth. It was a robotic routine every morning; open mouth, chew the berries, swallow the mush.

Jake, who monitored your every bite, failed to notice as you snuck your leftovers to Tuk, who devoured them hungrily.

It became harder to keep up with your brothers. They were fitting in so easily, so seamlessly, splashing around in the water while your toes still curled into the shore's sand.

Neteyam caught your eye, smiling breathlessly. "C'mon, little sister!"

Lo'ak took Neteyam's distraction as an opportunity to tackle him underwater. More splashing and shouting. They had not a care in the world.

You watched longingly from afar, breath shallow.

Everybody adored Neteyam, the prodigy, the good son. He was polite, charming. Lo'ak had charisma on his side, however reckless he might be. You didn't understand what Tsireya saw in him.

But you were still the demon. The traitor to her people. Your slender hands were a pitting reminder of the humans threatening to eradicate the Navi. You were the closest thing the Metkayina had for someone to blame.

You tried to ignore their whispers, jeers, and stares, but they haunted you. And even though you weren't responsible, even though your hands were bloodless, the shame was insurmountable.

You dreamed of their hatred, of war, of death. Their faces were twisted, vengeful.

DEMON DEMON DEMON DEMON

You woke up gasping, eyes slicing open, shooting upright.

It was dark out, the moon casting an eerie glow.

"Little sister?"

You flinched when a cold hand grazed your arm.

Neteyam, still groggy with sleep, was gazing up at you from where he lay. He frowned, then stilled, a realization dawning. Neteyam sat up quickly, the blankets slipping down his chest. "What is wrong?"

"Nothing," you dismissed.

He gripped your shoulders, holding you steady. "You are breathing fast."

You hadn't realized it, but you were. Instantly, you masked your panic, replacing it with composure. Though, beneath your chest, your heart was frantically racing with the recollection of your nightmare.

Neteyam inspected you thoroughly. "Did you have a bad dream?"

"No. I'm fine." He shook off his hands from your shoulders.

"Y/n--"

"Goodnight, brother." You lay back down, back toward him, and wrapped your arms around your stomach.

Some days, you felt everything at once.

On others, you felt nothing at all.

Life became survival--blinking, breathing, eating, sleeping. You slipped Tuk your leftover berries and endured lessons with Ao'nug and pretended to feel at home despite this impossible weight on your shoulders, these mountains you hauled. The pressure was crippling, overwhelming, but you fooled everyone. You deceived them with unnerving composure, even as hell reigned inside, drowning you alive.

Ao'nug told you to breathe; he told you to concentrate, the two of you cross-legged on the sandy beach, the tide ebbing.

He called you stubborn.

You called him a skxawng.

He would look at you too long, smirk a bit, and refrain from saying something prodding at his tongue.

Ao'nug rambled on and on about the way of the water, about this spiritual connection you couldn't quite understand. Sometimes, when you looked out at the horizon, you had the fleeting urge to run, to chase the sun, and never look back.

One night, you did. Or, at least, you tried.

A storm had blown in, rain pelting down, thunder cracking. The waters were rough, splashing mercilessly against the boardwalk.

Your family was asleep. Tuk clung to Neytiri, fearing the thunderstorm.

The wind howled so loudly that they didn't hear you rise up. You moved stealthily, creeping over their sprawled limbs and curled tails, careful not to nudge them.

When you emerged from the Marui pod, rain soaked your skin. It poured so heavily and thickly that you couldn't see more than three feet in front of you. You lowered down to your hands and knees, maneuvering by touch, feeling your way to the edge of the boardwalk.

Even amid a storm, the bioluminescent water glowed, golden fish swimming around.

Lightning struck from the clouds, brightening the sky in whiteness.

Something in the ocean's depths called out to you, extending a chilling hand.

You carefully submerged in the warm water. It rose to your ankles, knees, waist, ribs, and throat. Your grip on the ledge loosened. You didn't bother filling your lungs with air.

You couldn't hear the thunder underwater. You couldn't hear anything. The weight of your body sank you farther and farther from the surface, towards the coral and seaweed. You looked up, seeing the ripples as rain fell and white flashes as lightning struck.

Your chest began to tighten, but you didn't fight against it. When air bubbles escaped your mouth, you didn't swim back up.

You didn't know what was possessing you. Only Lo'ak acting this recklessly, this foolishly. But you closed your eyes nonetheless.

Here, at the bottom of the ocean, there were no demons. No whispers, no jeers, no stares. Here there was nobody, and you took comfort in that loneliness.

The pressure against your chest was dizzying. Your lungs burned, your skin felt raw.

Just a little bit longer...

The first involuntary breath caused your body to jerk, cramping your stomach. The water forced through your sealed lips, flooded your mouth, and dragged down your throat.

Your body finally hit the ocean floor, sand picking up around you.

Another spasmodic breath of water filled your lungs.

It hurts...

You clawed and grasped your surroundings, but all you held were fistfuls of sand. It felt like your skull might implode, the pressure was too great, too insufferable.

Unable to bear it, you opened your eyes. Grains of sand dirtied the water, floating around in clouds. But somewhere above, somewhere in the spotty distance, you saw a boy.

A boy swimming toward you, his hand extended.

You lifted your arm, reaching out to him...

But then there was silence, a blanket of consuming nothingness.

You understood it then, the way of the water.

"She is just as deadly as she is beautiful."

You were drifting outside yourself, gazing down upon this poor girl, limp and motionless, with braids and gangly limbs you didn't even recognize.

Take me away... Take me far, far away...

Hands.

You felt so many hands, so many fingers dragging you away. You felt so light, so peaceful, lost in a fog--until your face broke through the water's surface and raging sound bombarded your ears.

"DAD!" someone cried out. "LO'AK! MOTHER! SOMEBODY, PLEASE!"

Arms were holding you tightly, keeping you afloat, but you couldn't move. You felt so distant from reality, consciousness slipping through your fingers.

There was more screaming, more thunder. Someone was calling your name in the distance. Raindrops slid down your cheeks, patting against your closed eyelids.

"Neteyam? NETEYAM?! BOY, WHY THE HELL ARE YOU IN THE-- oh my god..."

"Dad, she's not waking up!"

"Lift her up! NOW, LIFT HER UP! Careful, watch her head."

More hands gripping you, hauling you out. The water glided down your chest, your legs. You were tossed onto land, limbs sprawled, hair sticking against your skin.

"I-- I saw her wake up and sh--she went outside. I didn't think she would go in the water--"

Someone pressed their ear against your chest, listening to the faintness of your heartbeat. Wet hair was smoothed away from your face.

"Is she breathing?!"

"Hold her chin up." This voice was deep and commanding.

"Dad--sir, I'm sorry--"

"NETEYAM, PLEASE!"

Your lips were pried apart, mouth filling with rain.

"Breathe into her mouth twice when I stop compressions."

Lips were pressed against yours, two gusts of warm air forced down your windpipe and into your depleted lungs.

There was a hard and fast pressure against your chest, rhythmic beats.

When the pumping stopped, your mouth was parted, chin tilted up.

"C'mon baby girl, c'mon!"

"Breathe, little sister, please breathe."

The fog in your mind began to clear, noises and voices solidifying. Blood flowed steadily through you, returning color to your paled skin. Your fingers twitched in a puddle of cold rainwater.

When the pressure commenced again, you felt a strike of sharp pain, like being slapped awake from a never-ending nightmare.

You gasped, eyes snapping open.

Two shadowy figures hovered above you.

Immediately, you flipped onto your side, throwing up the saltwater swallowed by your lungs. Your body convulsed, but a hand rubbed soothing circles on your back, another holding you steady.

"Oh, great mother, thank you," someone prayed, a voice you vaguely recognized.

You suffered a fit of severe coughs, every crisp breath burning your throat like swallowing fire. Your arms trembled as they struggled to hold you upright, but eventually, you collapsed onto your back, fatigue paralyzing you.

"My baby girl," someone rasped, drawing your head onto their lap. "Open those eyes for me. C'mon, sweetheart, look at me."

Dad...

You struggled to move, to speak. Your body was so tired, so drained. All you wanted to do was eternally sleep.

"Little sister..." Someone held your hand, squeezed it encouragingly.

Neteyam...

Your eyes cracked open, met by the darkness of night.

Jake leaned over, shielding the rain from touching you. "There you are, there's my pretty girl."

You blinked several times, droplets clinging to your lashes. "D-Daddy--" you croaked, sucking in short ragged breaths. Your throat felt blistered and raw--skinned.

"Daddy's here. I'm right here, baby," he reassured, gingerly removing the dark wet strands from your cheeks. Raindrops dripped down his grave face. "I need you to take big breaths for me, okay? Big deep breaths."

Your body began trembling from the shock of almost-drowning, recalling the tearing at your lungs, the heaviness. Panicking, your eyes dodged around, unable to see anything as rain poured, obscuring your surroundings. Neteyam was kneeling at your side, something torturing his eyes.

Jake held the back of your head, turning your face towards him. "Hey, hey, hey. Baby, look at me."

Your gazes locked.

"Breathe," he commanded, resting a calloused hand above your heart. "Breathe for me."

Everything felt suffocating, smothering, but you complied, dragging in a long inhale, your chest rising.

"That's it, good girl," Jake sighed. "Now exhale."

Your chest fell, exhaling slowly.

"Neteyam, go inside and get some blankets for your sister," Jake ordered.

Neteyam didn't move, still fearfully holding onto your hand. He couldn't shake the visions of your lifeless body resting at the bottom of the sea.

"Son, please," Jake begged, more softly. "She's not going anywhere. I got her, go."

Your brother's comforting touch slipped away, leaving your hand barren and cold.

Jake gazed down at you, his expression hardening. Veins pulsed in his neck. "What the hell were you thinking, coming out here alone during a thunderstorm?" he hissed, a tone you had only ever heard him use on your brothers. "You could've died, y/n, you realize that? You scared the living hell out of your brother and me." Jake shook his head, disappointment marring his face.

You couldn't bare the sight of it.

"I do," you whispered, but the confession got lost in the rain. Your lips began to quiver, eyes glistening. "I just couldn't take it anymore."

Jake's brows furrowed, squinting a bit.

Neteyam should've let me drown.

"Take what?" he asked, but you wished he wouldn't. The truth was too ugly, too broken--the shards were too sharp to pick up. But you were already bleeding.

"Everything," you said, blinking back tears. "I just wanted it to stop."

Jake's face fell in horror as he finally understood. He looked back out at the ocean, at its infiniteness. If Neyteam hadn't heard you, if he hadn't been there... Jake imagined waking up to one less child in the Marui; he imagined scrambling to find you, searching for a body on land that was rotting on the abandoned ocean floor. He wondered how long it would have taken for you to be found.

Jake gazed back down at you, his anger dissipating, replaced by dread.

A sob broke past your lips, cleaving through the taut silence. "I'm sorry, Daddy."

You broke down right then and there, head resting on his lap as the rain beat your skin. Jake's face drained of color. His eyes were vacant, unreadable, still processing fragments of the truth. Your small frame trembled as you cried, eyes screwed shut, the rain washing away each tear. When it finally sunk in, a surge of protectiveness caused Jake to cradle you in his arms, holding the back of your head.

You buried your face into his chest, clinging to him desperately.

"Everything's gonna be okay," Jake said, more so to himself, pressing a kiss to your forehead and holding you closer. His jaw clenched tightly. "Just let it out, sweetheart. Let it all out. I'm right here. Daddy's here." Jake rubbed soothing circles on your thigh with his thumb, peppering your head with gentle kisses.

When your sobs turned to hyperventilation, the memory of drowning haunting you, Jake pulled his face back from yours in panic. "Hey hey hey, easy now. Easy." He placed a hand on your chest, nerves spiking when he felt the quick palpitations. You were putting too much stress on your heart that had nearly stopped beating a few moments ago.

You wheezed, breath broken up by gasps and sobs. You squirmed on Jake's lap, writhing feet sliding against the slippery boardwalk, nails biting into your balled fists.

"Baby, look at me. I need you to calm down. Your heart is working too hard." Jake took one of your clenched hands and uncurled the fingers, holding them flat over his chest, above his heart. "Remember what I said about breathing? Big deep breaths, baby. Like this." Jake inhaled deeply, your hand moving as his chest expanded.

Coughing between short strained breaths, you struggled to follow your father's even pace. You grit your teeth, whimpering, shaking your head in frustration. You tried to wriggle out of his iron grip, resisting, but Jake kept your hand firmly against his chest.

"I know, I know, baby," Jake cooed, voice unsteady. You tried and failed to escape, to fight back, but as much as it tortured him to see you suffer, Jake was unyielding, holding you in place. This was for your own good. "I'm sorry, Daddy's so sorry, but I need you to breathe. I can't let you go until I see some deep breaths. Please, baby girl, for me. Do it for me."

Your eyes shimmered as you gazed up at your father, his face distorted by spilling tears.

Jake never took his eyes off you as he slowly inhaled again, relief washing over him when he noticed you attempting to follow along. After a few tempered breaths, your tears subsided, whimpers turning to meek sniffles.

"Good girl, that's it," Jake sighed, softly smiling at your calm appearance. He checked the state of your heart, relieved to find it easing down. "You did so well. I'm so proud of you, baby."

Overworked and exhausted, your eyes began to droop, the tension slacking in your muscles. "Home," you mumbled, unable to stay awake much longer.

Jake caressed your cheek. "Yeah baby, we're goin' home."

Jake scooped you into his arms, carrying you back inside the dry Marui pod where Neteyam had gathered a collection of blankets.

"Ma y/n, oh my daughter!" Neytiri gasped, collapsing to her knees as Jake laid you down. She wrapped a blanket tightly around your shivering body, wiping the rain from your face. Neytiri's eyes sliced toward Jake. "What happened to her?"

Jake stared at you, his heart clenching in woe.

You gulped. "I went into the water," you answered, guilt-ridden. "Mama, I'm sorry..."

Neytiri froze, her hands stilling.

"Your daughter almost drowned," Jake said roughly, something troubling his expression.

You couldn't meet your mother's eyes as she cried out, a sound so guttural you nearly flinched. She held you against her chest, cradling your head like when you were an infant.

You listened to Neytiri's heart as she prayed to Eywa. It was so fast you thought it might burst.

Suddenly, she took your face in her hands. "Don't you ever do that again, child. Don't you ever leave us again!" Neytiri sobbed, pulling you into a stifling hug. "Oh, great mother, protect my daughter. Great mother, protect her..."

Jake gently kissed Neytiri's shoulder, thanking Eywa for your survival in silence.

“Give her one more day,” Jake whispered, making Neytiri lean back in frustration, “One more day for her to come to us willingly. If she doesn’t, we’ll have an intervention, alright?”

Neytiri glanced back at your sleeping figure, feeling her heart clench, once again. Then, she looked back at Jake.

“One. More. Day,” she agreed hesitantly, “Then, we force her to talk. I cannot stand to see her like this, Jake.”

“I know,” he agreed, “I can’t either.”

The following day came and went. You remained guarded, consistently keeping your distance from the prying eyes of your parents. Eventually, even your brothers took notice of your odd behavior. However, when Neteyam inquired about your state, you snapped at him, before harshly cutting yourself off from him, just as you did with your parents.

At eclipse, you spent a few more minutes with yourself before you'd be required to head home. However, to your annoyance, your peace was interrupted by a familiar voice.

"Y/N?"

Snapping your head around, you were met with your brother's uneasy stare. He stood over you, holding a hand out for you to take.

"What's up?" you asked, unmoving from your spot on the grass.

"Mom needs our help with dinner. She wants you to help me gather a few things before we return home."

Eyeing him carefully, you took note of his agitated tail and downward gaze. He'd only met your eyes for a moment before lowering them again. Though your mind remained suspicious, you couldn't help wondering if he was simply a little guarded after you'd snapped at him earlier. Guilt crept into your chest as you released a sigh. Giving in, you placed your hand in his before allowing him to help you up.

Once you'd connected your hand with his, even after you'd reached a standing position, Neteyam never released his grip on you. As he led you through the forest, you noted his unyielding grip--gentle but firm. Then, you began to notice your surroundings grow more familiar.

"Aren't we getting the supplies first?" you asked.

"Mom hasn't told me what we need yet."

Your suspicion spiked before morphing into alarm. "You told me earlier that Mother wanted us to get the supplies before returning home. Now, you tell me that she never told you what we needed to gather?"

Neteyam clenched his jaw, lowering his gaze to the ground as you entered your family's quarters. Your heart dropped as your mind processed the situation.

"You lied to me," you muttered, unable to hide your disbelief, "Big brother . . . you lied to me!"

Yanking with a quick, isolated force, you attempted to free your hand from his grip. However, Neteyam anticipated your movement, and simply gripped you tighter.

"Where are we going?" you demanded, growing more agitated by the second, "Neteyam!"

"To Mom. I told you."

His clipped tone caused your anxiety to surge. Now, as you repeatedly tugged your arm, you grew frustrated at Neteyam's obvious upper hand in physical strength. However, he didn't move you without difficulty. Using your free hand, you pushed against his arm--all while digging your heels into the woven floor.

At last, when Neteyam managed to haul you to the family room, the foreboding feeling within your chest swelled. Jake and Neytiri, who'd been sitting on the floor talking, immediately looked your way. When you met their gazes, an angry, blazing fire ignited within your stomach.

Panting slightly, you looked up at your brother, eyeing him in betrayal. "How could you?" you asked, a small whine oozing into your tone, "How could you lie to me, big brother?"

Keeping his gaze away from yours, Neteyam walked you into the room, ignoring your physical protests.

Dimly lit by a fire, the thick tension within the atmosphere was unmistakeable. Jake and Neytiri, sitting directly next to one another, kept their eyes trained on you as Neteyam pulled you closer. There was just enough light to cast a few extra shadows on their solemn expressions.

"You didn't give us much choice, Y/N," Jake answered, before pointing to the spot in front of them, "Sit."

The desire to defy him burned through your veins. Glancing back, you looked past Neteyam, eyeing the doorway before turning back to face your father. Jake, of course, saw this and knew where your mind was at. Raising an eyebrow, he dared you to disobey him.

"Take off and I'll take away every privilege you have. No hunting. No going to the village. No leaving home," he stated, before pointing to the spot once more, "I'm not gonna say it again."

Swallowing thickly, you tried to ignore the deep cut that his tone left on your heart. Never before had you been on the receiving end of his disciplinary voice. At least, not you by yourself. There had been plenty of instances when you, and your older brothers, had received a minor scolding from him.

Though you were hurt, you did your best to maintain a straight face, not wanting to give Jake the satisfaction of knowing the effect his tone had caused on you. However, upon seeing his gaze slightly soften with regret, you knew that he'd managed to see through your front.

Jake sighed, closing his eyes before softly adding, "Please, baby."

Lowering your gaze, you kept your eyes trained on the floor before taking a seat. At the corner of your eye, you saw Jake nod at Neteyam, signaling for him to leave. Neteyam lingered for a moment before disappearing from the room, leaving you alone with your parents.

Tensing up, you attempted to mentally prepare yourself for the coming conversation.

"Y/N," Jake began, tone remaining soft, "you already know that we are worried about you. We need you to tell us what's going on."

Part of you wanted to cut him off and spit out the word "nothing", but you knew the wiser.

"You might've convinced yourself into thinking that you can put one over on us, tricking us into thinking you're fine, but I can assure you, we know better," he continued, "You can't hide much from the people who brought you into this world."

Jake's words punctured a small crack in your resolve, but you quickly brushed it off. Your parents were watching you sharply, and you were determined to show no signs of submitting.

Jake leaned forward, uttering the golden question, once more. "What is going on?"

His tone, laced with sympathy, pressed further against your resolve. Needing a quick distraction, you placed your fingers on your beaded bracelet before beginning to fiddle with it.

"Nothing," you replied, confidence evaporating as your voice came out shaky, "I'm fine."

"Y/N," Neytiri rasped.

The pain in her voice caused your throat to constrict. "Do you not trust your parents?" she asked.

The weighted question lingered in the air before guilt exploded in your chest. You leaned forward slightly, nearly convincing yourself that something had physically detonated within your body. Instinctively, Jake and Neytiri leaned forward, as well--ready to catch you should you collapse against them.

Noticing their actions, you immediately pulled back.

Of course that's their play, you thought bitterly, They're gonna try to push me until I break.

Your defiance fought against the guilt, but, under your parents' tender, watchful eyes--so open and ready for your emotions--you couldn't help feeling like a cracked egg, barely holding itself together.

For the first time since arriving, panic began to settle in. Regardless, you swallowed it.

After clearing your throat, you answered her. "Of course, I trust you. I always have."

"Then allow us to bear this burden with you," Neytiri continued softly, ignoring your feeble pretense, "‘Itetsyìp."

As you took a deep breath, you continued to agitate your bracelet as your tail remained mobile. "Why won't you just trust me when I tell you that I'm alright?" you asked, satisfaction trickling into your veins as you turned the question on them, "Do you not trust me?"

"Of course we do," Jake answered, "because you were never one to lie. That's why it's so obvious to us that you're doing so now."

As quickly as your satisfaction appeared, it vanished. Your fiddling, now growing more fraught, was halted by Jake's hand. He covered both of your hands and wrists, stilling your movements as you inhaled sharply.

"So, no. You're not fine."

"You don't--" you began sharply, making him raise his eyebrows.

Taking a breath, you gathered yourself before restarting your sentence. "You have no way of knowing what I'm feeling. You aren't me."

A gentle smile tugged at his lips. "But, I do. Wanna know how I know?" he asked softly, making your heart rate accelerate, "Ever since you were little--even as a baby--you maintained the ability to hold eye contact."

The tightness in your throat, which had temporarily loosened, constricted, once again--this time, with a gruesome vengeance.

"I would hold you against me like this," Jake said, leaning back and pretending to cradle a baby with his arms, "and you never took your eyes off of me."

His fond smile danced against his lips as he reminisced. You began to fiddle with your beads, once again.

"I looked into that baby girl's eyes and I knew that I'd always be able to read them, no matter how hard she tried to keep something from me."

Jake paused for a moment, lowering his hands before looking back at you. "This whole time, you haven't held my gaze for more than a few seconds."

He reached out, gently placing his large hand over your chest. Tensing up, you held your breath before he continued. "But, when I do get a glimpse of those eyes--your eyes--I can see it. I see that pain that you don't think I see. That pain that, for some reason, you don't want us to see. All that pain that you're holding in right here."

Remaining silent, you looked to your right, pointedly avoiding his gaze now. Though you knew Jake was waiting for a response, you kept your lips sealed.

Jake sighed. "How about this?" Jake asked, leaning away and causing your ears to perk up curiously, "We'll make a deal. If you do this successfully, we'll let you go."

In your peripheral vision, you saw Neytiri perk up, as well. After turning to Jake, she tilted her head with a questioning look in her eyes. Placing a gentle hand on his bicep, she caught his eyes, mentally asking what his plan was.

Though Jake said nothing, connecting his gaze with hers was enough to establish an element of trust. Nodding, she leaned back.

Then, Jake reached out, placing a gentle hand on your knee before continuing. "If you can look us straight in the eye--both of us--and tell us that nothing is going on. That everything is alright with you. Then, we'll let you go."

Your chest tightened as you inhaled deeply, blinking away the slight sting in your eyes. He'd hit a nerve, and he knew it too. After all the minutes you'd spent sitting here, you finally felt cornered.

When you didn't respond, Jake tilted his head. Neytiri shifted her gaze from her mate, settling her eyes back on you. Clenching your jaw, you tried to calm your breathing as a frustrated panic began to bubble its way to the surface.

Instantly sensing the change, Jake gently gripped your forearms. "Y/N?" he called softly.

A portion of his hands rested directly above your wrist. Nausea twisted within you as you realized he could feel your racing pulse.

The following silence felt physically painful. You'd been consistently distracting yourself with other elements in the room--the fire, your jewelry, the weaved flooring. However, in that moment, everything seemed to purposefully become uninteresting.

There were no distractions left. All eyes were on you, and there was no way around. Closing your eyes, in a strained whisper, you finally replied to his call.

"Why won't you just let me go?"

Upon hearing your meek response, Jake's shoulders sunk as he released a long breath, glancing at his mate before returning his eyes to you. As you opened your eyes, staring down at your lap, you cursed yourself furiously.

Your inability to meet his request was the confirmation he needed. Jake had succeeded in squeezing a portion of the truth out of you. Though it was indirect, it was enough to let them both know that they'd been right all along. Something was wrong.

At last, with this verification in mind, Jake felt comfortable switching his tactics. This weight was holding your heart hostage, and he needed to aid you in freeing it from your soul.

Nodding slightly, Jake cupped one of your cheeks. "Okay," he whispered, "Okay, baby, look at me."

Their quiet sympathy had cracked your resolve open. It was too late to pull back now. They were making their way in.

On the defense, you shook your head harshly. "No."

"Look at me," Jake repeated, never raising his tone.

"No," you hissed, brushing his hand off.

"Mawey, 'itetsyìp," Neytiri cooed, scooting forward.

"I said no!" you shrieked, yelping as Jake gently gripped your biceps.

"You're okay," he whispered, cupping your cheeks in one last attempt to find your eyes, "Just meet my gaze, baby girl. Please."

Eventually, with hesitant, audible breaths, your eyes met his. Soon after, mountainous feelings of regret, panic, pain, and relief flushed through every organ within your body.

His eyes--the embodiment of acceptance--remained unmoving as they zeroed in on you. His eyebrows, which had been creased together in concern and concentration, relaxed when your eyes met his. His mouth, pulled into a gentle smile, muttered the breaking words.

"You're hiding behind this anger," he whispered, shaking his head, "but you can let go now. Release it here. Just release it right here."

Gently, he took your forearms again, pressing your palms against his chest. Though your lips were squeezed together, a distinguishable sob tore its way through your throat. Then, you inhaled deeply, greedily sucking air through your nose, before exhaling harshly. Your chest rumbled as you constricted with each struggling breath.

Jake's expression grew solemn as he rubbed his thumbs over your skin. "Baby, please," he cooed, "You're gonna hurt yourself."

For a split second, his gaze subconsciously shifted to Neytiri. She caught this, scooting closer and taking your shoulder firmly--silently offering another brace to collapse onto.

Another muffled sob rumbled in your throat, but you forced your lips closed. Blinking frantically, you looked up, shaking your head as your teeth clenched.

"We've got you, baby girl. Come on," he encouraged, "Let it happen."

"Mm, mm," you hummed, shaking your head.

"You're so close, baby, please," he pleaded gently, "You gotta let it out."

You began to see red as an electrifying shock of frustration shot through your body. In that moment, his resolve, so calm and collected compared to your angering one, made you despise him.

As you pushed against him, your shoves grew rougher. He maintained his grip on your forearms--tight enough to keep you seated in place, but loose enough to allow you to move your arms.

Neytiri watched as you shoved Jake, preparing to reach out and stop your movements. However, Jake gripped her arm before she could, shaking his head quickly. She gawked at him for a moment, before pulling back and gripping your shoulder, once again.

"Keep going," he encouraged, "That's it."

"Stop it!" you hollered, beginning to swat weakly at his chest, "Daddy, stop it! Why wouldn't you let me go?"

"You're holding in too much, sweetheart," he replied calmly, barely moving as you grew physical, "I couldn't let it continue."

"But, Daddy, I can't!" you shrieked, finally freeing your sobs as tears fell, "They're gonna kill me!"

Jake's mouth gaped slightly as he finally released a breath.

"There it is," he breathed, keeping his grip on your arms as you spazzed.

You shook your head, beginning to relax your arms. "They're gonna fucking kill me, Daddy," you whimpered, falling slack as you gave in, "I don't know how to make them stop."

Jake nodded, feeling immense relief wash through his veins as he pulled you closer. "Okay, baby, okay," he replied, still breathless from emotional exhaustion, "You come right here and tell me about it, alright?"

Though you shook your head in protest, feebly fighting against him, you allowed him to pull you to his lap. He grabbed your arms and wrapped them around his neck. When you tucked your head into his neck, feeling his necklace brush against your skin, you made one last attempt to withhold your cries.

However, Jake caught this immediately, and gently coaxed your choking over the edge. "Go on," he whispered, "Go on."

Your body's fierce determination to unburden itself pushed through. A deep wail escaped your lips as you submitted to the overpowering grief.

"There it is," Jake guided, squeezing you tighter, "There it is . . . and deep breath--that's it."

Caving, your body intuitively followed his instructions. After gasping for air, another sob ripped through your chest.

"There you go," he whispered, cupping your head, "That's it, baby, that's it."

After speaking incoherently, you released a scream before shoving your face into his neck. "I didn't want this, Daddy!" you hollered.

"I know, sweetheart. Trust me," he answered gently, "But you needed it."

Neteyam and Lo'ak peeked in, having grown alarmed when they heard all the screaming. From the spot where she was holding your back, Neytiri glanced back, sensing the pairs of eyes on them. She shot the boys a warning look, raising her eyebrows threateningly. Immediately receiving the message, they backed away and left.

"You tell me all about it," Jake whispered, pressing a kiss against your temple.
