Scientists believe the spots trick predators into attacking the tail instead of the head, allowing the fish to escape. Most red drum have one spot on each side, on or near the tail. Having no spots is extremely rare, but as the fish grow older, they seem to lose their excess spots.

A family in Wellington, New Zealand found a little fur seal sleeping on their porch. This species of fur seal, known as “kekeno,” can be found throughout the coast. However, it’s incredibly odd to see it making an effort to sleep on people’s porches. Later that day, conservation officials were contacted and relocated the seal to a safer location.
