@16magnolias

Hello! 🙂 30-something year old dork with a deep love for Jesus, my husband, my kids, writing, reading, happy endings, books, turtles, good food, learning things, and the color blue. Relatively new to tumblr and still figuring out how it all works. Currently enjoying writing for Encanto. ❤🦋

My first work for the Encantober! Prompt: Sunset @encantober-official Initially I had a completely different idea, but then this composition hit me and I decided to do this. The previous idea will go for another day, then, and I am very proud of how this one turned out. So, to maybe clarify - I noticed that events of the movie happen almost in one day (wow, what an observation). Alma and Mirabel reconcile in the morning, Casita crumbles when it's twilight and Isabela's song happens during the sunset and then Mirabel's fight with Alma happens shortly after. So, I thought 'This is a good straight-forward metaphor, I can draw it' and I did :)

Happy Birthday, @impossiblefangirl0632! I hope you like your present 😊

This a sketch of a scene in Chapter 28 of "Take Back the Kingdom", which is one of my favorite fanfics and also one of my favorite stories, period, of all time. All the kudos to @impossiblefangirl0632 and @optimistic-violinist for creating such an awesome story.

Some close ups:

If you haven't read their story on AO3 yet, I highly recommend it!

Encanto Drabble for Isabela’s Birthday

I imagine the planter looking sorta like one of these.

“¡Feliz cumpleaños!”

Isabela takes her tío’s cue, a tap on the shoulder, and opens her eyes. Sitting on the table is an object made entirely of wood. It is tiered: three levels offset at the angle, with cradles designed to hold soil and plants. The planks have been assembled, as well as stained, by a skilled hand.

“Tío Bruno!” She gasps, as she moves closer to the planter. “Did you make this?”

Based solely on the man’s shy shrug, the answer is a definite yes.

“Where did you learn woodwork?”

“Oh, well, I… I used to. You know, before. A little bit. I just enjoyed making things here and there. And then, after. In the, uh… Had a lot of time on my hands.”

Ah. He still gets tongue-tied, talking about the walls and the surrounding circumstances with the kids. Nevertheless, Isabela gathers that this is an abiding interest of her tío’s, both “before,” when she, her sisters, and her cousins were small, and “after,” when there wasn’t much for him to do in that awful seclusion but tinker around. (She doubts he had access to anything like stain for the wood. But oh, hadn’t Mira mentioned seeing a rat maze and a system of pipes?)

Isabela tells him she understands, and, “Thank you for such a beautiful present!”

She goes to lean down, and it’s then that she notices the warps in some of the pieces. The craggy knots and pits, and discoloration. Even the cradles are artfully uneven. The planter is not only beautiful, it’s…

When Isabela looks back up at Bruno, he’s smiling warmly, his round cheeks dimpling.

“Thank you,” she says again, rising to give her tío a proper hug.
