Looking back it was so funny how high school teachers would pull the "you won't be able to get away with stuff like this in college, your professors expect you to be serious" or any hint that college is a Deeply Serious place.

One year in college I took a summer class on The Canterbury Tales because the super rad professor from my "Saints, Whores, and Warriors: Women of Medieval Europe" class was teaching it and convinced me that learning all the dirty jokes in Chaucer would be a rad way to spend the summer (she was correct).

Anyway, the university assigned us a modular classroom, or a trailer, and she was pissed. It was summer semester, you really couldn't find one classroom on this whole campus for 15 freaks reading Chaucer? Really? So she decided to move the class to the little 1890s house on the other side of campus where the English department was and we could enjoy the nice former living room/dining room for the summer.

She leads us on our trek across campus, not really paying attention to us. We file inside and get seats around the table as she is unpacking her bag and getting set up. Finally she turns around to see all 15 of us eating one of these

"What the...fuck? How? Where did you all get popsicles?" Total bewilderment.

Someone explained that the GRE test prep people where handing them out to students. Her reaction was "well this is unacceptable." And she went and demanded one of her own and we all enjoyed a frozen treat as we discussed the finer point of the Knight's Tale in middle English.

Not to be confused with the time a kid showed up like 20? 30? minutes late for a different English class with the excuse "sorry, there is a bouncy castle outside and I lost track of time" to which the professor responded "There is a bounce house?! Class dismissed." and just fucking left.

I’m still mad about something that happened on tiktok last week and I want to do a post about it and explain an aspect of transphobia I’ve observed.

A cis user made a video asking that trans people share more banger music that they make, but clarified saying “by trans people, I mean trans women” because trans men only make that “sad ukulele” music. There was much discourse, he doubled down and said trans men couldn’t take a joke, other trans people threw the offended transmascs under the bus, or insisted that they can also make club music, yada yada.

I want to know if the queers who haven’t been queer as long as I have know that this exact drama was had with gays and lesbians. Do you know that some transphobia is repackaged homophobia and lesbophobia? I feel like that’s something we should be allowed to say and examine without someone shutting you down and insisting you’re conflating the gays and transes.

But yeah, for decades the joke has been that gay men are the fun flamboyant ones that make good art and dance music, and that lesbians are angry and dress ugly and make sad folk music. It’s pretty much an identical bias and resulting disrespectful jokes.

And it’s shit! I’m not going to let anyone, let alone a cis person, get away with transphobia just because it’s directed at trans men. It’s rude and harmful to devalue our art, and our art doesn’t need to be easily consumable to you. We’re allowed to be pissed and offended when you write us off, minimize the harm you’ve done, and exclude us from the conversation. It’s obvious when you only tolerate the queers who can serve you, and that you don’t actually care to listen or learn about our lives, struggles, and art.

I don't know how anyone who remembers even a little bit of the 90s and early 2000s doesn't see how much of a retread ripoff this current crop of homophobia is. Nothing ever changes.

i hate it when customers get mad about policy and go “well i’ve always thought it worked differently” like ok. when i was a kid i thought the drains in sinks and bathtubs lead to Hell and i would pour things down them for the dead people. it turns out that you can think things that aren’t true

PLEASE STOP AND LOOK! Help This Ghazzawi Family!

Eslam is a teacher and a young mother of 2; Hanaa (age 5) and Ana (age 1). Since last year, she and her family have been fighting to survive the siege on Ghazzah.

She and her family lost their home to the bombings, displacing them all to a tent. The unhygienic conditions have caused both of Eslam's children to develop skin diseases.

Medicine and soup are extremely expensive in Ghazzah, $30 a bar; since Eslam's husband Rasmi had his place of work bombed, these prices are are completely unsustainable.

In order to help support their daily life and be able to evacuate, they need to raise $50,000 USD. So far, they've only raised $14,262 USD; their last donation was 4 hours ago.

Everyone, please contribute what you're able; donate if you can and share their campaign. Everything helps.

Thx for supporting me 🫂🇵🇸🍉🙏❤️‍🩹🌺🍀

This is Saleh al-Din and her brother Huda, the children of my sister, who was not three years old, and they are now between a conflict between hunger and bombing in northern Gaza, which means from the war since October 7, Saleh and Huda has not seen their child. Saleh was flying over him. Saleh was shouting over him when he screams and says throw playing here. He wished a game to play instead of hearing the sound of shelling and feeling hungry, so I wish everyone who has a living conscience by participating in the publication or donating Saleh, Huda and the rest of my family so that we can live their child❤️💔

I just found out that my mom had me in a Montessori type shit experimental school as a kid this explains so much

She said when I was younger my teachers were worried I was being bullied cause I wouldn't interact with the other kids, but when they checked in on me I knew everyone and their interests and could tell them about what what happening and what games everyone was playing and junk, so they figured I probably just had Autism, but I was "doing very well academically" and I "didn't seem bothered about it" so they just left me alone

anD THEN NOBODY BROUGHT IT UP AGAIN FOR THIRTEEN YEARS

Another thing I totally forgot- Our jungle gym was really old, right? And one of those big ones with levels and tunnels and wood stuff, right? So one day it was closed cause one of the wood components was rotten and they had to replace the part

And when I asked why it was closed the supervisor told me it was cause "if part of the jungle gym breaks while someone is on it then they could get hurt very badly, so when a part is broken it's important that we know about it, okay? Always tell one of us when you see something is broken"

And I was like oh okay cool, I actually have a few things to bring to your attention then

And I brought her a bunch of loose bolts and nuts and screws from the playground

And then kept doing that

Every day

And I remember every time they'd thank me and bring the part inside and I'd go back to playing

But then a couple years ago my mom told me "They used to call you the Safety Inspector. They called me at work once to tell they couldnt get you to stop, you just kept bringing them more and they couldn't figure out where you were finding all the damn things. The PTA was talking about just demolishing the thing"

And I brought her a

bunch of loose bolts and nuts and

screws from the playground

Beep boop! I look for accidental haiku posts. Sometimes I mess up.
