So my design process of vivi so far is rolling back and then changing absolutely everything from fairy over jester into concepts and geometry.

Oh wow.

I just found out that the tumblr dashboard can actually display when something was posted and all you need to do for that is to hover your mouse over the right corner of a post -which you wouldn’t know to be clickable by just looking at it- and wait for the popup box to show up. Because there’s just not enough space anywhere for insignificant shit like when something was posted.

How to view the outbox or the dates of fanmail remains a mystery to be solved still, maybe one day I shall get to the bottom of this too.

Why are so many people on this site again?

Those 2 changed quite a bit haven’t they.

Character design is still hard.

I haven't checked tumblr in ages. I didn't realize you were so depressed, man. Medication still working alright?

Avatar

It was more like an outburst after a long time of peace. Thought I had it left behind me but apparently not.

Thankfully I had great support to make the worst of it more bearable.

The new medication is ADHD medication and yes, it works. I had considered that new angle after self-analyzing this overloading aspect that paralyzes the mind which was oddly familiar, a central thread running through my life as far as I can remember back.

It also just so happens to explain a loss of interest, trouble to follow conversation, even my bias towards creativity and an array of other things.

The medication is experimental. It could have been a number of things (some of which caused by it which is why it’s hard to identify) and if it wasn’t ADHD, I would probably be an even bigger wreck now since the meds worsen the effects of depression for people who don’t have that specific brain structure. I would also be restless and unreasonably energetic.

Instead I am more calm, focused and relaxed than I have ever been so I suppose there must be something to it. Still, no diagnosis has been made and perhaps I am misjudging this but for now, I am fine.

Right now I’m having a depressive episode.

I am erratically switching between “this is easy, this is no big deal. I actually kinda like this, really” and “I am a toddler in an adults world, I am hopeless. Everyone has it figured out, the gap is too big now”.

So disorienting. So hard to distance myself, to stay objective, to look through this. Fuuck.

Doc appointment is already made but it’ll just be another session of “oh you can not properly communicate your feelings in 2-5 minutes? Here take these general purpose meds. By the way you are x years old now, you need to do y. Have I mentioned yet you are inadequate for an age of x? Because you are. Good bye, next.”.

Fucking hell.

This time I have another explanation though, different approach. Hope it’ll work out.

I know that homosexuality/transexualism/etc. are not conscious choices and are caused by biological or environmental influences and interactions. That said, why are schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and depression mental health issues if "chop off my dick I'm actually a woman" is a life choice? How is that not reflective of a mind incongruous with reality? Why is that an unassailable personal freedom? I'd let people rimjob giraffes and marry trees, but I wouldn't call them healthy.

I find that perspective very bigoted on several levels, but I understand your thinking and I think I can give you an answer that will provide you with greater clarity.

First of all, it sounds very much like you look down on people with disorders, and you really shouldn’t. The vast majority of people with disorders of any kind are able to function in society and make contributions. Even those who can’t contribute deserve compassion, but that’s a whole other issue.

Second, transgender people do have a disorder. Their brains are in the wrong body. That’s a pretty unenviable position. Think honestly about how disorienting it would be for your brain to be transplanted into the body of the opposite gender. It might be cool for a while for the sake of fulfilling curiosities and such, but eventually you’re going to feel very at odds with your own body. You’re going to know in your mind that you’re one thing, but outwardly you will appear to be another. Your body will not match your self-image. Not all trans people experience this sort of dysphoria, but most do.

Third, I think we need to examine a question of how society reacts to aberration. When someone deviates from societal expectations in some way, how do we react?

I think we start by asking ourselves: what is the nature of this aberration? Can it fit in our social order? Is the onus on them to change for society, or is the onus on society to change for them? If someone is schizophrenic, they will likely hear voices, they will perceive ordinary events as threatening, they will not accurately perceive reality. Obviously, it does’t make sense for society to change to accommodate the way this person is. Such a person could not function in any society. That’s why they must be treated. They must work to change so that they can function in the social structure that we all exist within.

But think of something like homosexuality. There was once society-wide resistance to the idea of same-sex romance, and indeed much of society remains opposed. But if we look at the nature of the aberration that homosexuality represented at one time for the near-entirety of our culture, it’s obvious that society actually could accommodate gay people. There’s nothing about being gay that actually harms society in any significant, demonstrable way. Gay people can do all the same jobs as straight people and are equally capable in every respect. And so, we are slowly making the aberration not an aberration. We are incorporating gay people into the fold of social acceptance, and extending to them the same rights and opportunities as anyone else. And we’re better for it.

Trans people are the same way. They’re every bit as capable as cis people. There’s no job that I can think of that could not be done by a trans person. They are in no way less capable. Why should society impede them in any way? Why should we stand in the way of our fellow human beings for a difference that truly amounts to little more than nothing?

As for whether or not they are healthy, I would say that healthy is an extremely loaded word the way you’ve used it. First of all, health is a gradient. A person can be unhealthy in some way and still be useful, fun, interesting, whatever. Being bipolar or depressed does mean you have a mental health problem, but it doesn’t mean you are to be looked down on or that you are inferior. It just means you have different needs and requirements than other people. I dare say there will come a day when you are, in some way, unhealthy. I doubt you will start to view your own humanity as being diminished when that day comes.

I think that you see being transgender as some kind of defect, but it’s only that because society has failed, for irrational reasons, to fully accommodate and accept it. The onus is ours, my friend, to build a better world where people can reach their full potential.

We’re all different, and we need different things to flourish and prosper. Yet, instead of enabling each other, we so often tear each other down needlessly over politics or an unwillingness to see other perspectives. I’m as guilty of it as anyone, really.

I probably said about 1% of what I have to say, but maybe I’ve said enough to at least show you another point of view.

I made a video to go with it, too! You can find the video off Kickstarter and on the comic’s website here, which isn’t obscured by Kickstarter’s stupid play button here.

The video actually is some followup story to chapter 5 as well as being a kind of prequel, so please do watch it! It has to do with Min. And the seeds. And, well, Furfur!

If you can’t pledge, please consider helping spread this! I would love to get it in print, and the lowest tier for physical books is 25 with shipping included for the U.S.!

Thank you so much everyone!

Yeah, Dawngate was pretty awesome. I liked the diversity and lore significantly better then what for league of legends does, with it’s retconning and cliche characters. Having played that for years and seeing them slowly abandon any form of effective story telling caused me to lose interest in it.
Sitting here listening to these characters narrating their own lore and it’s pretty great. Shame I missed it, I wasn’t able to play long. When I did I had a lot of fun, especially with Fenmore. What an interesting character too.
Just heard Desecrators lore, a good example of not judging a book by it’s cover. Not just some mindless undead brute.
I was surprised to hear it was canceled. Heres hoping that something brings it back. Open source would be great, or… anything really. Was really looking forward to it. T_T

You know preservation of games has been brought up as an issue we will face in the future and it’s already happening. The thing just went poof and only exists as youtube videos now since it’s free to play and purely online based. That type of game comes with an in-built expiration date linked to how long their owner finds them useful.

So expect to see a lot more of that in the future. Kinda sad how the hard work, time and effort put into this game just vanishes and now we can’t even study it.
